Even at dealership prices, 5K is considered to be a "noticeable" claim. I am in this business for many years and, when buying the car, any claim over 2.5K should be carefully reviewed...

If you really like it then go ahead with it but make sure you get the extended warranty on the car. Try listening on small noises (windows all up and no background noise present like a highway) like hissing (when releasing the break pedal-brake booster problem) and whinning sound while engine is running while turning the steering wheel left to right almost on lock position (steering rack problem). Listened on a very faint humming sound on a flat surface while the engine is running...if you hear this after you released the break pedal without stepping on the gas pedal you need to get your ESP reprogrammed because the E-brake is grabbing even on level ground (hill descent control). make sure to get all of the service records.
The three problems noted above will hit you with a $5000+ bill of repairs. Then there are those other small things that the other guys on this forum had issues with that you need to look at for as well.
The $5K damage is nothing on these cars. I got my GLK's bumper replaced because of a reckless woman rear ended me and it cost $3300 to replace and that is no structural damage just the plastic part.
