Dirty air filter

I recently bought a 2010 c300 sport 4matic and it felt sluggish, so I took the air box off and found dirt n leaves... Wth... So I dropped in k&n for $80 from pepboys.... Fitting it together was a little off on the edges but got it together... Big difference from them old dirty filters...

Glad you got some power back.

I have not heard of anyone that did dyno work, or simple pressure drop measurements (that I have done on my tracked Rx7) for the oem system. Just a clean filter may very well have returned your lost power, with little help from the K&N filter.

The oem filters do not attract more dirt than the k&n filter. The cause of the build up is probably due to neglected maintenance.

I would not use anything else but oem. They are designed to do the job on this car. You are risking your engines longevity.

dirty filter

does anybody know what this secondary filter is for.. it was a fabric type filter inside the cover...the filter covers(1), filter(2) and mysterious filters(3)...

Weird, it looks like the same material used for the cabin filter. This is the first time I've seen secondary filters. Even on the S-class v8's I never saw them when swapping out the filters. Must be a new thing. Is there a part number on them? You can prob cross reference them online.

It said Germany and sum number but I won't have it back for a couples days prolly cuz I sent it back to the dealer to look at te cats and cabin air filter cuz I get a rotten egg smell when I punch it to get on the highway... So I'll have them look into that also...

There is only enough room for a pleated filter about 1-1/2" thick. When you put the K&N in, which old filter did you remove, based on the photo ?

Regardless, you need to clean the leaves out during and then after the fall, if you live where the leaves came from, or a similar "heavy" fall area, which includes York Pa. You could also devise a tacky, pre-entry screen before ea intake slot ... perhaps light 1/2" chicken fence screen.

When I had my 2010, I pulled out all 4 of those filters before putting in the 2 K&N's.
