Houston C-Class Owners---Beware!
I woke up today to find my side mirrors covers stolen. Nothing else on the car was touched, scratched, dinged, stolen, etc. Filed a police report and apparently this isn't the first C-class in the area with this problem. Apparently they would steal these covers or the whole mirrors and sell them for about $600. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up if you live in the Galleria area or Houston for that matter.

That's unfortunate that it had to happen to you, but on the bright-side you let all the owners in the community know what's going on. Thank you for that, and possibly you can look into painting your mirrors (I know it's a long stretch, but it prevents theft...not sure about the value of the vehicle and if it's owned or leased).

The police said I was one of the lucky ones...apparently they normally steal the whole side mirrors + headlights

How do they steal the mirror unit without opening the door? And how do you take headlights out without uninstalling front bumper...

Well, it's not a good solution, but I meant painting your side-view mirrors black. This way you car is different, and has no covers to be stolen (but I just read the part about you being lucky and how they just rip out the side view mirrors).

Stolen Side View Mirror Covers
Same thing happened to me. I live in Houston as well and my car was in the parking garage of my office and they stole my side view mirror covers off of my C300. Apparently this is a problem in Houston!

Sucks to hear you were also a target. After a week or 2 after my incident, the police called me and told me there was another one. I got some aftermarket mirror covers that were half the price of oem. They've already cracked :/

This is when I do like the Muslim remedy to thievery. You see many one handed people washing cars at the car park in Bahrain. Steal something in Saudi one week and the hand goes the next! They give you a slap on the write all right!
