Motortrend: 2013 C350 v. 2012 335i v. 2013 ATS

1st: Place: Cadillac ATS 3.6
Nürburgring Nordschleife-developed chassis beats the Germans at their own game. However, the dated transmission and CUE need fixing.
2nd Place: Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport
Surprisingly satisfying-to-drive sport sedan. We all love the red seatbelts. However, it's just not as capable as a certain sedan from Detroit.
3rd Place: BMW 335i Sport
Expensive, though the underrated engine does give you loads of power. Damping rates too soft for a car with so much grunt.
Enjoy!

I remember the writer being biasedly pro Cadillac in a review of the CTS V Wagon so I expected as much in this review. However, an ad stating "powered by Cadillac" a link back seems almost insulting to motor trend subscribers. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading another BMW vs Mercedes review

I agree.
This is an especially interesting comparison since it's comparing 'the new' F30 3 series BMW to the current W204 C Class and many other reviews I've read have put the new F30 335i as best in its class - an apples with apples comparo would be against the previous E90 BMW range.
You would think or assume the new upcoming W205 will present more of a challenge to the F30

Over the years of my prior career, I got to know (and presented to) journalists at MT and other mags. They have a range of opinions, just as we do, but are dedicated and hard-working folks. The glamour of attending press events in upscale and interesting locations does wear off as one is traveling much of the year. They actually have strong personal opinions and many scoff at the ideas that they are for sale and point out the difference between the editorial and sales staff, who have widely different motivations. Having watched them work, challenge engineers, and reading the final product after having been with them while driving, I don't line up with the "conventional wisdom" that these guys can be "bought". I have also never seen disproportionate amounts of our ad budgets diverted to potential sources of "...of the Year" awards.
