So here is the math: Tire OD = wheel size + 2 x sidewall_height
where sidewall_height = AR x Tire Width
Front: ODf = 17" + 2(.45 x 225) / 25.4 mm/inch = 24.97 inches
Rear: ODr = 17" + 2(.40 x 245) / 25.4 mm/inch = 24.71 inches
The difference in OD is only 1%, which is very acceptable.
And can we fit 35mm offset? I thought we couldnt. On the site I went to, any of the wheels w/ 35mm offsets didnt list the W204 as being a vehicle the wheels would fit.....
So if I look at my link, MB offered the same size wheel you were looking for, 18" x 8.5", on the rear of their 18" option, with an offset of 54mm. And the tire used was 255x35 _ 25.02" OD_ 94Y XL. But that was for the rear only. If you want the same size wheel all around, I think you would need less width, and a narrower rim. The benefit is with all 4 the same, you can do better rotations, esp if you go non-directional.
Sorry for the confusion.
BTW, what size wheels and tires are on now? It's a sport so they are staggered, so if stock they are either the 17" or 18" wheels/tires listed in my link. And how many miles on odo?

Definitly, those are different sidewall ASPECT RATIOs (AR) for the 17" staggered wheels-tires listed in my link. When MB selected 17" tires for the C300 Sport model, they wanted the same sidewall height , front and rear. That way you will have the same tire ouside diameter (OD), front and rear, so all the stability stuff will work properly.
I was wrong, I have no idea where I picked up 35mm offset as being a stock MB size.

I would like to be able to rotate tires, thats why I'd like them all the same size.

If you could find a pair of used/ebay 17" front wheels like you have (and perhaps sell the wide rear wheels), then your snows would all be the same size (7.5" wide rims), and you could do the optimal X rotation, as long as you stay away from directional --> tires ( assymetric is ok ).

I don't mind if my 18s are staggered, since they will be only on the car a few months out of the year.

I work for WURTH on the road. I see some dealerships on route 9, like framingham Ford & Wellesley Mazda, so I'm on route 9 between Framingham and Natick most of the day.

+1 on Boston. Incredible music seen, with several great univercities to draw from. In high school, used to drive into the city (packed with beers in jackets), and hit some basement type clubs where these great bands would play ... usually no singing.

2010 Mercedes-Benz C 300 Sport 4 Matic
New Owner from Cumberland Rhode Island
Just picked up a 2010 C 300 4 Matic. Bought it in South Easton Ma. I have only lived in New England for 6 years and have seen some crazy winters as well as some mild ones. I have only purchase AWD or 4X4 since moving her and they have never let me down. One was a Jeep Cherokee Sport and the other a Lexus RX 300. The Jeep was a beast in the snow, the Lexus did well but I never really felt confident in the vehicle on wet or dry pavement (too much body roll) I needed to up grade so the C300 was good choice since it is AWD but have not had much chance to really test it.
My concern is tires. My C300 came with General Altimax Arctic Tires. At first I thought of asking the dealer to change them with all seasonal but he was not sure of what he would give so I decided to keep the winter tires an get a set of all season for the other 3 seasons. I'd like to know which ones are best for this car. The Artics have a very aggressive tread but will reduce mileage in the spring. I'd like to know what are my best options
