eBay Rear Camera Install Success
For those thinking of doing it, the key items to remember:
1. Get the right parts/tools.
a. I purchased this CMOS camera off ebay. It costs 35 bucks and already contains a camera mount bracket that replaces your license plate light fixture. A lot of time saved! I used the right rear license plate frame to replace. You will simply take out the frame and insert the existing bulb on top. It also has a long RCA extension

b.Get the 4 piece pry bar kit from Harbor Freight. Use these tools to help remove trim and work the wiring
c. Get an Add-A-Circuit from Autozone
d. Get eletrical tape
e. Get extra 14 gauge wire (20 ft) - red and black
f. RCA to Fakra cable from Mid-City engineering.
g. have a Torx 20 screwdriver/ratchet set
2. Go to the HU menu and enable the rear view camera. Many posts on this.
2. Go to youtube for the Mid-city engineering VIM install video to understand how to remove the COMAND unit. From there you will connect the Fakra-RCA cable.
3. I wired through the passenger headliner. You will need to get your RCA video (and ACC reverse switch wire) through to the back. This is the most difficult part of the job: getting the wiring from the front COMAND unit to the rear SAM. I went under the glovebox and through the headliner. People will say it is easy, but only after you have done it once.

4. I powered the camera through fuse 71 using an add-a-circuit. I connected the Video power and ACC reverse switch wire to this line (my camera came with both a power line and reverse switch line). For the add-a-circuit, remove the 15 amp blue fuse 71 from the rear SAM, and simply add it to the top slot on the add-a-circuit (it will have 2 fuse slots).
5. Removing the outer chrome trunk trim piece is difficult. YOU WILL scratch your car, so follow the recommendation to put masking tape on the edges.
Everything else is straight-forward and being tidy. It took me 3-4 hours...
