2012/13 radio into a 2008-11 car?

2012/13 radio into a 2008-11 car?
This has been asked before however during a recent repair of my COMAND radio I took note of something. I had to replace the DVD mechanism that failed--pretty simple repair. To get to the DVD mechanism I had to remove the radio faceplate (4 screws), top cover (4 screws) and the DVD mechanism (4 screws).
Removing the faceplate was very simple which makes me wonder if it would be that easy to just replace faceplates? Even it fits though the other concern would be display operability since the 2012/13 no Longer has a motorized display. Thoughts for any of you high-tech guys?
