Plasti Dip grill

I painted my grill with plasti dip last night. It was pretty easy. Did 4 coats.
I did mask off the star, which peeled a tiny piece of the plasti dip off when I was taking the tape off. Next time I will just spray the whole thing and trim the star after.
I am curious to see how this holds up to road abuse. I do a lot of highway driving.

Thanks! And glad to hear its holding up! I like that it can be peeled off and redone at any time too. Pretty cool stuff.

It not as smooth as paint, but I'd say the it's the consistency of what black molding is on a car. I will take a close up today

I didn't take the chrome off, not sure it comes off. I saw lots of people spray chrome, so I just cleaned and dried it really well first.

I plasti dipped only the chrome on my grille and the star. It has held up decent for a year (some chips showing now). I also did the fog light bezels and those have held up better!!

Just did mine 2 weeks ago. First time I taped the chrome but didn't have any experience with it so it didn't come out clean. 2nd time around I removed the chrome trims and it came out 98% better. Removing the trims were a PIA and I broke 1 clip. I did have some over spray on the top center which you cant really see unless you're looking for it. It's really hard to paint in my garage as there's no adequate lighting and too much dust and dirt all over the place. Mine has a smoother finish but I do like the orange peel look of the OP's. Overall I'm happy with it.

You don't have to remove the chrome. Just spray the chrome along with the rest of the grill. Once all is dry, simply peel the dip off of the chrome for a perfect result of a dipped grill while retaining the chrome.

Talking

great job! I just plasti dipped my grill today and was really happy with it. I have seen another forum member with the same artic white 204 as you, and they did the same dip, but painted the emblem white. Thought that looked great as well.

This is a head light removal but at about 59 seconds of the video he removes the grill. This is the reference I used to remove mine. I forget what thread a I found this video on but credit goes to them for posting it.

Yes there is, actually two methods. YouTube w204 grill removal, and the 3-4 min videos are one method, and the video that is under a minute is the second.

To answer your question, it's not hard for someone who knows what they're doing. If you're a newbie like myself, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE grab a friend who can help. Long story short, I was doing the longer of the two methods, and ended up breaking a piece of the clamp. Once I was done panicking, I called a buddy, and he did the shorter method with ease. Also, having someone who has plasti dipped before helps , because there are multiple coats needed to be applied. But that's not too big of a deal.

I'll post a pic of mine, hope this helps.

Very easy, there are a couple You Tube vids avail.

It is a 5 min job and if you are replacing with the same grille only tool needed is a small flathead screw driver.

Press in hard at the bottom of the grille using 2 hands just off center where the grill meets the bumper. Dont be afraid to give a good push, this will release the center clips that attach the grille to the bumper. You will hear them pop.The bottom of the grill will push inward and then as you lift it out you can use the screwdriver to pop the T Bar brace off the grill from the middle center. If you are installing the same grille there is no need to remove the T Brace (uses 2 10mm bolts)

The chrome strips can then be removed by popping them off from the back

If anyone is interested I have a stock C 250 Sport grille that has been painted satin black with chrome strips that Id sell for 50.00 plus shipping in US.
