Best way to remove side mirror glass?

So I am ready to change out the side mirror covers on my 2009 C300 with the 2010+ arrow style aftermarket covers. I have read through a number of DIY's and each of them are a little different when it comes to popping off the mirror glass itself. Some say to start at the top and pull, others say to do it from the bottom or even the side.

My question is, is there a "best/safest" way to do this? Or will all of the above ways work without much risk of breaking the glass?

Thanks in advance!

Jake

I have a 2013, not sure if its the same procedure as 09. But I removed mine to install LEDs, start by pushing the bigger end of the mirror in so that the smaller end sticks out. From there just pull from the smaller end and the mirror should pop right off. First time removing the mirror will be a little tight but afterwards the mirror comes off easy.

I certainly don't think there is much risk of breaking the glass, unless of course you drop it. The force required to remove the mirror is higher than I expected, but worse case scenario: (I believe) the plastic clips behind would break before the glass. I have read from another forum member he split his plastic bracket behind the mirror and at the end of the install everything functioned as expected. Lol, reassuring, huh? In all seriousness, you just have to pull.

Thanks for the replies! I ended up pushing in the larger (nearest the window) side and then pulling from the thinner (outermost) side and they simply popped off. It took me about 30 mins on the first side due to being extra careful when disassembling but the other side took all of 15 mins from start to finish.

These things look great! Much better than the '08-'09 style but not as nice and sleek as the 2010+ OEM ones but I can't complain considering the $150 cost, and that includes shipping. I ordered them Sunday around 7:00pm and they arrived Tuesday around noon. They shipped from Taiwan to Eastern Washington in, essentially, 1 day! I bought them off if eBay from 55 Tech and highly recommend them.

Now to get the puddle lights wired. I know others have wired them to the red door lights and that looks pretty easy but my concern is the positive and ground wires. The wires for the puddle lights consist of 2 black wires, one has a white stripe and the other has nothing. Is it safe to assume the striped wire is the positive? Also, for the red door lights, where in the line should I "tap" into using a wire tap?

Thanks!
Jake
