Quote: Thank you. I finally found that car and it was perfect... THese are hard to find where I am from and I doubt I will find another. I am very worried they will attempt to fix it and it will never be he same and pretty worthless if I ever sold it...
Sorry for the accident. That car will never be the same. If it was me, I will trade it right away even if it's fixed.

Similar to what happened to my dad's 2012 C250, except the airbag didnt blow and he got hit a bit lower on the left front fender. Damage was somewhat less, but still ran up to about $25,000 . They totalled it, he bought a new 2013 C. Glad you made it out OP; its a car, it can be replaced, your life cant. Thank MB for making such safe cars though

2013 Diamond Silver C250 Coupe W/Sport PLUS Package. Same as my Sig but color is lighter.
I already installed the tune & intake and I'm loving the TURBO.

What a sad sight....

I am happy for you that the car was written off; now you can go and find another one just like it and not worry about if repairs were done right.

I hope you are feeling better...

Thanks guys. I am still in a ton of pain and I still have trouble walking without crutches. I am very angry about all of this but at least I am alive.

As far as a new car goes, it depends what my insurance company pays me. I only had the car 2 weeks actually. I had a C230 which was pretty good on fuel. I am considering another 2008 but a C300 4 Matic. I have read a few things that the C300 is not so good on fuel. Thoughts?

Although this is not the place to discuss, I like the 2008 BMW 328i due to it being a little cheaper and apparently better on fuel. Although they are kind of boring to look at.

That sounds very pretty. I would love to go new but I just can't afford it right now. I have considered leasing a new one but the payment is pretty high. I am turned off a little of owning a car. I couldn't imagine buying a brand spanking new Benz and a week later getting hit or hitting someone due to their error.. and they fix it!!! Then I would owe all that money for a car that would never be the same and is worthless. At least if it was a lease, you could give it back...

OP, you really have to consider the odds of what you're anticipating. Of course, one can never tell, but mathematically, the odds of you being in another accident are fairly low. Your insurer might think otherwise, but they're in it for the higher premium and the money. Unless you really are that bad of a driver, you have to think positive and anticipate good instead of dreadful.

Get well soon and hope your next car will make you stick around here

How true is that and is this a general consensus? The car that was wrecked was a C230 and pretty good on fuel. I like the features better on the C300 but not interested in a gas pig...? What gives? I should say I am in Canada and our C300 is a 228hp 3.0 V6. I think the same as in USA.

Definitely true... 2 days before the accident I was reading was the mercedes does in the event of an accident. Drops windows a bit, turns on flashers, unlocks doors, etc. Interesting.

I am torn on a new vehicle.. I figured I would buy a 2009 C300 but I have read a lot about it being a complete gas pig. The car I previously had was a C230 (Canadian Model). The C230 is a 2.5L, 201hp engine and was overall not bad on fuel. I hear the C300 is not so good on fuel. In Canada it's a 3.0, 228hp engine.

Thoughts?

Sorry for your loss and hope you'll recover soon.

As for gas consumption, it all depends on driving style but I have the feeling the RWD cars may be a little better when it comes to fuel consumption. The issue is RWD cars are fairly hard to find.

Good luck with finding your replacement.

Ya exactly.. I don't want a 4Matic and all of the C300's in Canada are this.. Maybe I should get another C230.

What's the fuel economy of the c230? My 2008 c300 gives me around 22 MPG in the city and around 32 MPG on the highway. That's not bad, then again I come from getting 16 MPG.

C230: 25 City and 38 Hwy
C300: 24 City and 35 Hwy

These numbers are from Transport Canada so basically mean nothing.. Fuel economy is somewhat of a hot button.

Hey Toast.. I see that add just went up tonight.. I am trying to stay away from the C300's. As much as I like them, I hear they are heavy on fuel.

I am contemplating this car, although it is way beyond my price range. Might provide me afew more years of driving though:

I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. It's good that you were okay and that you're here to contemplate your next decision about another vehicle.

Just to help you out a bit in terms of fuel consumption, we have 2 C300's in the family (one is mine, one is my father's). Both are RWD only (not 4-matics).

My C300 RWD with 6-speed manual transmission is just fine on gas in my opinion. I'm not a gentle driver by any means, although I do not abuse the car at all. I find that if I'm out on the highway for 15 min or more, fuel consumption is quite agreeable. (Sorry for any Americans here, Canadian fuel consumption units coming up!!! lol) I get about 8.0L/100km in the summer (mostly highway, some city), and about 9.5L/100km in the same driving in the dead of winter. I find that in the city, fuel consumption is not as good, especially if there is no highway driving mixed in with it. I never do all city, but I've seen it get up into the 10-11 L/100 km range with mostly city driving.

My dad's C300 is about the same as mine on the highway, but worse in the city (this can likely be attributed to the fact that he's got an automatic, and I have a manual).

All of the C250 loaner cars that I get (all 4-matic models) seem to do no better than my car in comparable driving, and I do miss the extra power from the C300 for highway merging / passing. If you do all city driving especially in cold weather, then yes, perhaps a C250 is better. But otherwise, I don't believe there's too much of a difference (especially if you find a RWD model).

Best of luck to you with recovery and finding another suitable vehicle.

To add another point of reference from a 4-matic perspective, ours averages about 21 mpg in mixed driving (11.2 l/100km). If it's all hwy, it gets around 28 mpg (8.4 l/100km). It's a really inefficient drivetrain if you do mostly city driving, and AWD makes it even worse.
