Oil Change
Does anyone here trust their oil and filter service to anyone other than themselves or the dealership?
I'm currently driving an '08 C300 4matic sport with approximately 63K miles. Any suggestions for oil brands/viscosity?
Thanks!!!

This is all over the place on the forum. If you are going to do it yourself and suck it up through the dipstick. Need to get the Mercedes adapter from
www.fluidevacuators.com it is like 24$. it creates a solid seal inside the tube and allows to completely suck all the oil from the pan. If you have a 4MATIC you will suck 1 qt. less than the RWD due to the transfer case up front. People use several different evacuators and it all seems like it comes down to personal preferences. It is known though for the 4MATIC's it is trickier and thus recommended the adapter. The RWD you seem can use a tube and insert it all the way down to the bottom of the pan.

I either do it myself or let dealer do it, although if you let dealer do it, 9 times out of 10, they'll overfill your 4-matic. I would certainly not trust a place like Jiffy Lube with this car or any car for that matter.
As far as oil, M1 0w-40 is easy to find locally and it's only $25/5qt jug at Walmart. Stick to OEM oil filters.

Hey I have a question regarding oil change intervals. I know for our cars its 1500 miles or 1 year which comes first. But my BMW friend told me that you should do it 6 month (there service book states 1 year as well) at most because the oil only last 6 month. Is this true?

No, it's not true.
The only time I can think of where you might consider changing it so frequently is if you only drive very short trips where the engine doesn't get enough time to come up to operating temp and stay there long enough to burn off moisture and fuel dilution. This is not the case for majority of drivers.
By the way, in the US it is 10K miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. FYI, I had the oil in our C300 analyzed after 1 year and 9k miles and it still looked fine at that point.

If its a good synthetic you can go so before a change. Conventional oil breaks down faster and doesn't last as long. Why that is the typical 3,000 miles or 6 months. But Amsoil (which I think is one of the best synthetic oils out there) states you can go 30,000+ miles before changing the oil. You just need to change the filter a few times in that long interval.

i also read somewhere that amisol oil can last upto 30k miles, but requires you to change the filter...do i trust it nope.
i wonder if this is the cause, my dealer said that the transfer case has a small leak of oil that dripped down, im wondering if its because they over filled like you guys are telling me
