Remote Start - CompuStar

Hey guys. I just placed a order for a compustar unit that utilizes the factory mb remote as a remote starter. Has anyone had any experience installing or using it? was wondering how good was the range and the installation difficulty. My order should come in within a week and i'm planning on doing a detailed review and install as soon as it comes in. Im also thinking about getting the drone capability so i can be able to control the car functions from my phone.

Have you installed it yet? There's another thread on benzworld that's 6-7 months old regarding this remote start. I'm very interested. My other 2 vehicles have it but somehow MB didn't think a $50k C350 needed it? Let us know how it goes and would love some details on the install. Thanks

i still haven't installed it yet. its been sitting in my trunk for a few weeks now. haven't been brave enough to tackle the job myself, waiting for my friend to have the same day off with me to install everything since he is way more tech savvy with ignition wiring. but from what i seen it is only 6 plug and play harness and one tap into accessory wire. So i might be doing this this weekend myself after i opened the box. yes stay tuned a detailed...well the first DIY ill do will be posted. hopefully its detailed enough.

Had it for a while now, works great highly recommended. Drone Mobile is awesome, GPS (lowjack) in real time is amazing and could even save you on insurance.

SUPER easy install, All DIY in about 15 mins tops, If you have the right tools. I bought these sets from Harbor Freight. $2 for the first link and $7 for the second link.

Here is the installation guide for the "Brains" of the unit. (This will get you the remote start off the Panic Button from your factory keys and gives you an extra accelerometer (motion/bump sensor) within the unit.)

Firstech Mercedes DC MB204
Install Guide Here:
http://www.compustar.com/dealersuppo...stallation.pdf

Then you'll need the Drone Mobile DR-2000, This will get you (Lowjack) GPS tracking and remote start from your Smartphone anywhere you have cell service.

Install guide here for DroneMobile DR-2000:
http://www.compustar.com/dealersuppo...l_Guide5x5.pdf

Drone Mobile requires a subscription service for GPS tracking. View Dronemobile.com for Rates. I'm just doing the yearly plan for now. Also the DR-2000 has a sim card in it which needs to be activated through the DroneMobile website. It means that your car is essentially a cell phone that needs to have cell service (I haven't figured out which cell company it uses) but take a look at this map, if you live in an area that doesn't have great coverage either move or don't get this product. It took me forever to re-find all these install guides on-line if you buy the products they come with them as paper print outs. So sorry for the delay, also I still will post a video on YouTube as soon as I get time.

EDIT: I called Firstech maker of DroneMoblie and found out that the GPS/Cell unit (DR-2000) Uses AT&T Carrier. Basically anywhere in the USA/Canada that has AT&T Data coverage (All data services GPRS, 2G, 3G, 4G...ETC) the remote start from the DroneMobile App will work. Keep in mind that your smartphones cell carrier has NOTHING to do with the car's cell service. Basically you can have any data service on your phone and it will work. It's like sending a picture message from your phone AT&T to someone who has Verizon. They all communicate together over data. This AT&T service for the DroneMobile DR-2000 is covered by your yearly subscription service with DroneMobile.com. Again check the map below, the only time I have trouble will the App remote start is when I park in a underground parking garage (Common sense). I have an AT&T iPhone 5 so now I'll be able to gauge when I don't have cell service I can just use the factories panic button remote start when walking up to my car. Hope this makes sense and helps you guys out.

Thumbs down Whaat!?

NEWS FLASH!

I just got the Dronemobile version 3.0 android application update and I noticed my voltage, temperature and lock/unlock status is never correct.

So I called tech support and you know what they told me? That my controller doesn't support vehicle status. A primary selling feature of their product!

I also have premium service and the tech support guy is saying that this is not supported by my controller. Looool!!!

Can anyone with dronemobile confirm this on their W204?

I have had it for a year...compustart with Drone module (iphone) and works excellent..added it also to '14 Lexus RX350 and '14 Honda Civic..
Allows tracking/location (option you must pay for)..it works as advertised...they just released a new app revision..not sure if I like all that much...yet...
Had professional shop install due to my ML has the keyless start which requires additional wiring to module under rear seat..
Just do it !!!!..especially here with the cold winters it should be provided by manufacturer as the new GM vehicles/caddies that use onstar...

Um, You didn't read my post.
I've had it for a year and half.

Vehicle status not working correctly with Android 3.0 application update.

Tech support now says vehicle status not supported with w204 benz data controller.

I have the DEI smart start module which is basically the same thing and also has worked very well for 13 months. I use the viper application on my iPhone. And I also wired the module to my horn, so when it detects several horn beeps it knows the alarm has been triggered and alerts me on my phone.
