"Creating" a 1fin gill from stock sport grill

It seems there are plenty of guides on how to remove/paint/reinstall the factory sport gill, but I have not seen a single post of anyone who left the middle bar untouched, but blacking out the rest. Wouldn't this simulate an amg 1 fin style grill, or would it look wierd for some reason? With proper masking, it seems very doable. True amg style grills literally have just 1 physical bar/fin, so I realize that aspect of it would not be true to the look, but it might be kind of it's own cool look if done cleanly!

Sounds like a good project to use PlastiDip on. If it doesn't look good, you can peel it off.

I ordered some plastidip a couple days ago... I might give this a try and if I do, I'll have pictures up.

Were you planning on dipping all the chrome pieces as well, or just the brushed aluminium looking parts?

I was going to dip all the chrome pieces but I'm going to try to leave the 1 fin just to see how it turns out. If it turns out well, that's one less piece I'll have to dip!

Yeah, I figured you would probably have to leave the middle fin unpainted as well as the chrome to have a balanced/centered look, but that's a lot of masking. Would love to see how it turned out anyways

That looks great! My eye keeps getting pulled to this grill....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Gri...-/360479617562

My only concern is that I don't plan to "black out" anything else on my car (c250 sport, 2013). I just don't want it to look like an unfinished blackout project. Also, I can't understand the discrepancies between the year models and grill fittings. Most sights say fits 08-11, and 55tech has a specific section for 2012-2013 only, AND....this grill says 08-12.

It's very confusing.

I've actually done both routes with my coupe, I definitely like the single fin more. It gives it a more aggressive look.

I agree...it looks off center (too low). Oh well, worth a try at least

Hey sheiz, I see you have a 2013, as do I. Where exactly did you purchase that 2 fin grill from? I've been trying to find a 2013 grill that fits for sure, but most sites list only up to 2012. The 2 fin looks like a perfect fit!

I like the look of that more than the 1 fin for some reason.

Wait a sec....I see you have a coupe. Is the 2 fin just a painted/dipped mod to the original grill? I have a sedan. I'm wondering if an after market grill for a 2013 coupe would perfectly fit a sedan.

Sorry, I didn't mention the 2 fin is the oem grill painted. I believe the sedan 12-13 has the same grill as the coupe? I'm pretty sure it's the same. Nothing fits perfect like oem so I would say just use plastidip like many others and see how you like the results. Painting will give it a smooth surface while plastidip has some texture to it. Good luck!
