2009 C300 dead battery.........

I had to jump start my wifes car yesterday. The battery was not strong enuf to start it, but jumping it was instant. I pulled the battery out to get a new one, but the auto shop re-charged the old one 3yrs-8 months old. I put it in and off she goes, but not for long. Dead again after a day. So my thoughts were in the beginning, just replace the battery, as it is really 4 years old and if the battery was still good, it would only be good for a year or so more at best. And if there are problems with the charging system, they would resurface within a few days.

So my question is 1) Is this battery any good? 2) Is there any history of charging system failing? 3) Just replace the battery and see what happens?

I replaced the battery on my '08 a couple of months ago. It started fine after a jump but I didn't want to be stranded again. Car runs fine now.

Get a new one. The recharging doesn't work well from my experience

My 09 c300 battery died two months ago, my new vehicle warranty is still active. Roadside assistance came out and replaced it on a Sunday. No charge.

Best not change batteries at that age without a battery load check & alternator check.

Batteries in these cars usually last between 8 & 10 years.

Make sure the battery is a AGM ( Glass Mat) type of similar amp hours to the one it is replacing.

I called my friend that was a MB salesman for 20+years as they have the same car also. From him, the batteries last about 4 to 5 years and an MB replacement is $179. plus tax plus inst. if required. There seems to be different cars with different needs, as one type of car has 2 batteries. Ours has only one. I think some glass pack batteries are upwards to $400 for these cars. I would imagine that they would last 8-10 years, well, they better.

What are you talking about? Batteries are changed all the time at 4 years.

hi Carsi, can you elaborate why that would be? Too much power with a new battery?

Ahhhh the last of the big spenders

My Varta AGM battery is in good condition after 6 years.

I see very often on this site that the original OEM AGM batteries last up to 10 years.

It usually costs nil to have your battery & alternator checked.

So why not in this throw away society ??

Put the savings in your pension fund , pay extra off your house....you may need it the way theUS politicians are behaving

I've jumped off a couple cars in the last few years without issue. Is that just as likely to cause problems and I've just been lucky?

Its hard to say, but there is a great risk to damage several control units, I wouldnt risk it.

Use an electronic charger (around 30A charge current) with a supply function, this is by far much more healthy for your vehicle.

Battery life greatly depends on the environment in which they were used. In hot environments it's not unusual for batteries to die after 2 to 3 years. In colder (but not super cold) environments they can easily last 8 to 10 years.

When we were in Texas, we routinely have to replace battery after 2 to 3 years regardless of brand. Now in central CA where we rarely go above 80 or below 40, my wife's car battery is nearly 8 years old and still works fine. I just helped my neighbor change his car battery that was 10 years old.

Please check your battery ventilation line, it should be connected to the left side of the battery as you look from the front of the car. The MB roadside assistant said mine was disconnected and that could have been a factor of the battery only lasting about one and a half years, it was under warranty so he gave me a new one.

Any suggestions on NON OEM batteries for this model C300 2009? Ours seems to have gone, 1-800 merc showed up, put the jump on and can was fine, but wanted 165+tax plus core plus 145$ to put it in, so 345$ x onsite - even though I have extended original warranty.

I called dealer today, wanted 225$ plus 25$ for core plus tax, ouch.

Napa and autozone have many for much less, what does one have to focus on for 2-3 years of performance?

Visit a good battery shop & ask for a AMG 70 to 100 amp hour 12 volt battery that will fit your car.ie correct LxBxH with terminals located appropriately.
