Rear View Camera (yes I did a search first)

I have 2012 C250. It did not come with navigation or rear view camera. I have read many of the explanations and DYI on how to install the camera and then enable it in the engineering menu. Before I started assembling hardware etc. I went into the engineering menu and looked for where it might be enabled. I was unable to find it. Is mine a too basic model of C250 to add a camera? I have added a picture of my initial engineering menu to help identify what I have.

TIA

I'd like to know this too. My uncle just picked up a 2013 C300 but without nav and saw my rear cam and wants one too. I haven't seen the car yet so haven't had a chance to mess around in the eng menu. Looking at your picture though I would dig around in the System menu, or ExtPlayer menu.

Out of curiousity, do you have the multimedia input? (i.e. can you play video from an external source on your monitor).

I have the same engineering menu, and kind of assumed that the non-nav systems don't have the capability. Would be cool if they did.

Can you explain a bit more how it works? I see it has multiple video inputs, is it all controlled with the factory knob?

This module is pretty interesting, you can play video via it as well? How does that work?

yes it has 3 video channels, you either use the knob or a provided push button.
if you hold the knob back for 2 sec it switches to channel 1, do it again to channel 2 and again is back to the COMAND or audio 20/50
channel 3 is an auto switch channel when going in reverse if you set the dip switch.
very easy to use and install.
you can hook up anything with a video output so camera's and dvd players work fine

Does this Veyron module need the backup camera to be enabled from the engineering menu to work? My 2012 c250 doesn't have the option in the engineering menu.

no it has nothing todo with the options in your COMAND. just connect the green wire to a reverse switch or reverse cable and set the dip switch on.
i'm pretty sure btw you just didn't check all your options, there are 3 pages in the engineering submenu nr 7.

I went into all the settings 1 by 1 and there wasn't anything about rear camera. Also my engineering menu colors are different than the ones I've seen on here and on youtube.

not that it matters for this veyron module but what do you have in your car?
i assume its a facelift so its either the COMAND NTG4.5 or the APS 50

I looked at the veyron module on eBay and it says it works with all monitors that have the 10 pin plug, took my display out and it doesn't have a 10 pin plug, it's 8 pin. I have ntg 4.5

i don't know if the NTG4.5 is different.
you checked the cable going from the center unit to the screen right?

Yes, mine looks nothing like that. There were 2 cables going to the screen.

One was a 4 pin circular blue connector and the other was an 8 pin black connector.

I found this module also which seems to do the same and they have a specific model for the 2012-2013 C-Class.

Received it this week and tried to install it today, would've been a rather easy install had the module worked.. It's shorting out somewhere internally because the light comes on for 2 seconds then turns off, and 2 of the wires were shorting on the harness and killing my screen. I hope they send me a new one.. International shipping is a *****.

There goes the excitement Sad to hear that! Please keep us posted.
Specs: Standby start: 10 seconds after CD unit is turned off
Does this mean you need to wait for 10 secs after starting the car before you shift to reverse mode or the unit requires min 10 secs in between power cycles. If not met what could potentially happen?

I would rather go with this if I am too crazy about it.

Bought this instead.

http://car-solutions.com/en/car-vide...class-2012.php

Will return the other one or sell it if I get an exchange. This one also has a much more documented install guide and manual. And shows specifically for the c class 2012. The other one from xcarlink was not the same as the picture on their site.

Just an observation. Both units you ordered say they are for the 7" screen which come with the Comand system. You have audio 20 which has a 5 inch screen. That could be why that unit is not working.
