My w204 C300 4Matic transmission is bad. Again
#51
Update: MB dealer confirmed after a full diagnostic that it is an issue with the transfer case/transmission and they are ordering a replacement transmission for my 2013 C300 with 37,000kms —*Luckily it's all on warrantee.
Question for the wise forum: Should I trust the replacement? Are the 7G-tronic trannys just inherently prone to eventually going bad?

Well... We all believed the issue was fixed in later models (at least 2012+), but it looks like is not the case and the only transmission you can trust is one re manufactured by MB with better parts. If a 2013 7G Tronic Plus failed then that means either you are extremely unlucky or the issue is consistent across 2008-2014 W204 and 7G Tronic/7G Tronic Plus.

WELL take this with a grain of salt.
MERCEDES TECH SAID they have not seen one remanufactured transmission come back yet.
remanufactured transmission is superseded with many updated parts.
much better bearings and machining to improve oiling passages .

Isn't it likely that he will get a new one with the same faults though since he's under warranty?

That is the question isn't it. I'll ask the MB dealer whether or not the replacement tranny is factory rebuilt or all new. I assume because the W205's are now in production that it will be rebuilt.

here is what the SA said to me , they do not install new transmissions.
owner would have to come out of pocket for a new transmission.
my transmission was replaced on original factory warranty .
around 19.000 or 20.000 miles don't remember.

My 2008 C-300 4 matic with 78,000 miles had the same transfer case problem. Dealer told me I needed a new transmission for $7000. I am trying to find out if the 2016 C-300's still have the same issue or has it been fixed. If I buy a 2016 C-300 without 4 matic will that eliminate the problem?

Rear wheel drive(non 4matic) does not have a transfer case. So, yes this problem is not present.
