HELP! COMAND stuck in update mode!

I inadvertently mashed Update in an engineering menu and my system won't move off the error screen of unable to locate update disc.

The screen says remove disc and press CCE. I've literally pressed C, then C, then E; but to no avail. What is CCE?

How do I get the system to reboot at this point or did the system erase the firmware in preparation for the new software?

What can I do? I know... bone head move, but it's done.

Thanks.

Just turn it off and come back in 10 minutes. That's what I did.

Not even overnight. I'm thinking about disconnecting the battery to see if that does it.

Thanks though.

I was stuck in Diagnostic mode, disconnected the battery and everything returned to normal.

Got it. I did disconnect the battery for 30 minutes and that didn't solve the problem. What did solve the problem was removing the PCMCIA card and then restarting.

Oh that's interesting. I didn't have a card in when I got stuck so turning off the car for a while did it. Good to know!

When you say remove the PCMCIA card and restarting what did you mean by restarting? because I removed the card, switched off the ignition, locked the car and went back after 20 minutes and it was still stuck in 'remove disc and press CCE'

I shut the car off and waited for about 5 minute and restarted. I believe the software was looking for an upgrade disc in the CD, then the PCMCIA card. Since there was no CD in slot 1, it looked for a file on the PCMCIA and since it wasn't there it simply kept trying. Once removed, all was well.

Force shutdown to exit update mode

You don't need to disconnect the battery. You can do the force shutdown by holding the power 'on' button until it powered off similar to any laptop. You will hear the harddrive click and stopped spinning immediately. Don't forget to eject the pcmcia and disconnect the media interface (iPod) before you do the force shutdown.
