Yes the camera kit part#A2049055303. I went to the parts department of the nearest Mercedes dealer here in Montreal and the representative told me that he saw the number on his computer but was unable to order it. I will continue to look on Ebay but now there is none. Thanks for the info, J.P.

Have you seen this (non Mercedes item) on Ebay. The seller claims to post to Canada
and is clearly going to be much cheaper

Take note that it seems like that camera is fitted in one of the licence plate light fixtures, a half *** solution if you ask me.

in belgium you will not pass the annual control if you replace one of the lights with a cam. not sure how it is in canada but you should check it first

The sensor on that camera is CRAP. All OEM cameras are CCD not CMOS

I bought an after market camera for a 08 C300:

Camera: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200944499405
20ft RCA cable
FAKRA to RCA adapter : http://www.ebay.com/itm/330914234642
Fuse splitter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/160967130467

Camera comes with its own drill, enable Rear view camera option in the engineering menu.

Nope, no pre-wiring, you need to install harness from camera to the voltage regulator, then supply-voltage, ground wire and backup light signal from the rear SAM module, then you need to route a signal cable från the voltage regulator all the way to the comand head unit.

I have now managed to remove the tailgate trim (without causing any damage) to my (W204) 2009 'C' Class Estate and been able to install a third party HD (Sony chipped) reversing camera unit and wiring circuit, by substituting one of the Licence plate lights with one specially adapted to mount the camera (bought off Ebay). This was achieved partly by following advice herein obtained and large degree of experimentation. I now realise it's very necessary to pull quite vigorously to release the trim retaining clips, helped greatly by using a set of nylon 'trim' levers also obtained from Hong Kong off Ebay. To help others who may be considering doing the same thing, I have taken a series of detailed photo's (that I'm about to upload a photo image.org server) of the process, showing the position of the various clips and stages etc.. I am willing to describe in detail the stages I took to get the trim off. Its not easy, but knowing where the clips are located helped enormously. I also intend to show how I managed to thread the wires within the tailgate assembly through the flexi-leads, thread them into the roof space and concealed down the inside corner trim to the rear (UK) offside rear panel, to access and connect to the car's electrical circuit and fuse array.

Fitting non OEM Reversing Camera

Having fitted 'Third party' camera to the tailgate I find that the Auxiliary input to my Comand ASU is already used, as shown in photo.
As the first owner from new, I know it was not ordered or fitted with a reversing camera, so am very curious as to what function the lead has. I find no similar lead in the tailgate, assuming my car may have been pre-wired for a camera. Can anyone help, I've searched around the rear panel and corner wiring looms in the hope of discovering an unused connector, thus saving me the trouble of feeding through my new lead the Comand APS. The next problem is knowing what happens if I disconnect it to insert my new camera lead via a FAKRA adaptor. Any suggestions please?

That cable is from the ipod interface cable. Just replace it with the fakra cable and you are good. Just make sure to turn off the video aux on the HW setting of the command.

Thanks Banjo, I can confirm it is connected to the Multimedia Interface in the Glove box, but I found it very hard to unplug it from rear of the Comand APS, so have left it in place for the time being. There must be a hidden clip holding it in place and try as I might, I was unable to release the plug.
So I now wonder if its possible to connect the camera via the MM Interface. My car was supplied with separate 3 cable adaptors for connection via the interface: 1. for Ipod, 2. for USB and 3. for Aux (4 pin 3.5mm) Jack Plug. Looking at the schematic wiring diagram the 4 pin Jack has connections for Audio L, Audio R, Video, Common Earth and Screen. See wiring diagram :

Assuming I can get a male 4 pin Jack, I think it should be possible to connect the camera via the Comand ASP Interface. I'm now on the search for male 3.5mm Jack Plug with separate Audio and Video inputs.

Yes you can. I tried that before unplugging the fakra cable. If you go this route it will be a hassle if you want to plug-in a IPOD as you need to remove the aux cable everytime.

This cable will work:

Thanks yet again - Banjo. Just to advise you that I've just ordered the Stereo Plug off Ebay and your help and advice on this issue is greatly appreciated. I'll let you know how it works. It will save me removing the Mercedes FAKR plug from the Comand APS and leave the Audio RCA's available to connect to iPod via MB Multimedia Interface in the Glove box. Cheers

C Class w204 & 2014 GL350 CDI
need some help and clarification on reversing camera on w204

Hi
just wanted to know whether one will get two parallel lines as shown in the photograph after the reversing camera is fitted in w204, which will help one to take a judgement of the road and straighten the car.

see the two parallel lines in the picture.

our mercedes dealership says that if he fits the reversing camera in my car, these two parallel lines would not be there. I do not like this way. rather I want two lines to come.
can anybody clarify this point for mydecisionmaking.

C 350 CDI
Hi Everyone,
I am sorry to write in such an old thread, probably most of you already have bought newer cars, however I recently got a C 350 CDI from 2013 and I really wanted to have a genuine rear view camera. I went to my local dealership (Silver Star, the official Mercedes dealer in Bulgaria) and asked them for the kit described here, however they told me they never heard of such kit. I gave them the number presented in the 12th response: A2049055303, however they told me that this number at least according to their system is invalid. I gave the vin number of the car: WDD2040231A878062 and they told me that the retrofit would cost me 1600 EUR... which seems like too much for a rear view camera especially looking at the prices discussed here.
Does anybody know if there is a new part number for the kit or any other genuine kit that would fit my car?
