Very strange "Rear Right Sidemarker Lamp" problem help

This has been going on for a number of months now.

This happens fairly often when I start the car in the morning or at night when its dark outside.

If I see this green headlight light symbol come on

Then I have a 80% chance of seeing the following error message below

If I step out of the car and check in the back, indeed the right sidemarker lamp is out (all the other lights around the car are working).

Now this is where things get weird. For some strange reason, I can easily make the lamp work again by doing one of the following things:

1) If I open the trunk, the light will come back on (huh?)

or

2) If I unplug and replug the master rear right lamp connector the light will come on again

Please note that I have brand new lamp wiring on both the left and right rear side. I don't have the melting connector issue anymore. all the wiring and connectors are new.

What is going on here? is there some kind of resistance load issue or the bulb is on its way out and I need to change it?

Thanks

Replace the bulb. Most likely the contact points have worn off to the point they don't make good enough connection with the tray. Very common issue on cars with bulb trays vs individual bulb plugs.
