snow tire size on c300 sport ?

Hi all
I have recently purchased the c300 sport 2010. Winter is coming in Canada I just got a set of winter tires the size is 205/55/16r on 16 rim. My question is this too small for the car? Some people have these on their c250 but not the c300.
On the MB manual it recommended the 17. Or some website suggested that
215/55/r16 for the c300 is the least. Any thought would be appreciated.

thanks

205/55x16 is the way to go, 215/55 is too large

This is the link for the 16" tires installed on a 2008 C300 Lux:

You did not mention the 16" wheel offset, which could cause rubbing issues. The one I bought as a spare matched the Canadian 16" wheels. Your 215-55's are only .2" more radius for the tire, and should not be an issue. But all 16" wheels are not the same, regarding front caliper clearance (or interference).

Hi there thanks for the replies. I'm not sure what the wheel offset is. But the caliper and wheel are extremely closed with each other. I would say around 3-4mm aparts. I have not seen any contacted marked between them yet ..I have driven for last 3 days. But this still kind of freaking me out. Question is this safe
To have this as is this? apologize I'm noob when come to car.

Front wheel

back wheel

No problems, we have been mounting 16" wheels on tonnes of W204.s with the same brake systems.

2and2, which size tires did you end up going with...215/55-16 or 205/55-16? I went with the 215's...they're a little larger in diameter but it's a very small difference.

But why?, a 205/55 is by far a more common tire and is usually cheaper than a 215/55

I bought them based off of Tirerack's recommendation. I should have likely gone with 205/55's like I had on my W203 but the difference in diameter is so small, I don't think there will be any problems - hope not anyway.

Tirerack is not the definitive authority on tires/wheels for MB cars. When I was looking at 16" for GF's C300, they said in US, 16" wheels would not clear caliper. I then bought a 16" wheel from them as a full speed/load spare for GF. Worked well.

Vic V is correct, the 205-55 would have a narrower tread, the correct diameter, and be a bit better as a snow tire, vs 215-55.

Of course it's better than a 17" 225-45 or 17" 215-50 series.

I agree that Vic V is correct. If returning the tires that I bought for 205/55's wasn't such a pain, I would exchange change them. Too bad I didn't do research on this forum prior to buying them...

I'm confused in the mean time, the mechanic get me in doubt about the clearance between the caliper and the wheel told me that it would be ok to have as is this, but skeptical if any rock that gets in there and will damage the caliper. I was thinking exchange to the 17" set, the tires shop person was advised it perfectly fine as long these are clear no touch doesn't matter how close these are.

I had 5mm clearance to the caliper, with 16" on C300. Please measure your gap, as best you can. People upgrade brakes to larger diameter rotors, reducing this clearance to a few mm frequently.

It is extremely difficult for a perfect sized stone to get in there, and if it did, it would not break the caliper. It may cause a harmless scratch on the wheel hub.

Same Question

Hi Guys,

I'm a noob to cars and to MB.

I am in the same situation. 2010 C300 4matic, my tire dealer recommends 215/55r16 instead of 205/55r16. Is there much of a difference?

As for rims, do these fit? http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...Silver+Painted

Thanks!
