Distance warning lamp purpose in non-Distronic car?

Distance warning lamp purpose in non-Distronic car?
So here's a bit of a silly/interesting question...
On a non-Distronic equipped C Class, one would presume that the Distance Warning indicator (#2 below) wouldn't have a function. Yet, at least after the latest software update in my car this lamp comes on at vehicle startup for a test. Is there any other functionality?
I've noticed it in the 2013s I have driven, but until the latest updates - mine did not ever come on.

When the processors & Canbus boots it is looking for the function. I don't have Distronic on my CLK & it lights at startup. To my knowledge it has no alternate function.

I'm sure with the old software flash that they had blocked it at factory due to a known non Distronic build.
When the dealer does a reflash it is the full monty generic flash update because they don't know what configuration car it will be used on.
