My 2013 C250 has this very noticeable rattle in the engine both at startup and after driving. My dealership told me the sound is coming from the direct injection. The rental they gave me while they checked it out had the same sound, too. Is there a way to mitigate this noise?

 

DI engines are a little diesel like from a soundtrack perspective. They can be tuned to make less of this noise but at a substantial loss in performance.

Turn up the radio or attach some Dynamat to the firewall & hood.

I guess you could fit a diesel acoustic damping kit but suspect it will be expensive from Benz.

 

I find the rattle from direct injection therapeutic that is why I always have a smile on my face when driving a C Class.

I only hear the injector pulses from outside the car. Inside is quiet. But that's the same for my BMW and old Audi 2.0T as well.

 

Dynomat is probably a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. I only hear the noise from the outside too, but I don't want to hear it all.

 

I really do think that you should have waited for the fully electric Benz.

 

That would solve the problem, but I don't like the B-Class or the SLS :/
