Eco Smart Question

Hey guys, i just leased a 2014 C300 4matic for the family, white on black, beautiful car, just a question, i noticed the eco stop and go system right off the bat from the first time i stomped on the brake pedal its an interesting system to save fuel for sure, we'll see how it goes in the long run, one question though, how do i de-activate it? do you guys recommend to de activate it or just keep it on?

I mean i see the Eco button on the dash with the green light and if i press it it disables the Eco function but for some reason the next time i started up the car it was enabled again so how does that work exactly?

Thanks.

The ECO button is going to be enabled EVERY TIME you start the car regardless of whether you want it on or not. If you want to keep it disabled, you're going to have to press the Eco button every time you start the car. There's no function that I know of to have it automatically off upon starting the car.

Edit* Preferably I'd rather have it off as I find it annoying to hear and feel the engine turn on and off every time I'm at a stop light.

The system defaults to "on" in many markets. It can be changed with a Star but I don't know what dealer attitudes are to changing the default.

I don't like it at all. It's certainly not seemless, I find it almost embarrassing.

While I'm sure that the default has been set to on to aid Benz in their fleet CAFE homologation for the US, in a country where no one cares about the cost of gasoline it would not seem appropriate. In Europe, SA & similar markets where gas is really expensive it makes sense.

For those markets even Porsche has installed stop/start & freewheeling ability.

The norms have nothing to do with gazoline price, they're here to reduce global pollution, co/nox/hc/diesel particles etc, even if gazoline is free there's no reason to burn it for nothing while waiting at red light

Yes Pascal ~ that is an extremely valid point as well. I'm with you on that.

In the US what ever system was used (activated) on the car when it was evaluated for its EPA estimated mileage will be the setup that it defaults to whenever the car is started.

Exactly, hense my comments on CAFE homologation. Benz pays big penalties every year because it has no small eco cars in it's stable.

Can you explain "can be changed with a Star"?

With a Star switched to developer mode you can change all these types of settings on these cars. You can switch on functions that don't operate in some markets if you have the hardware & switch of other functions should you wish to.

I have no idea what US dealers are prepared to do. Their Star machines are monitored live on the MB Network so they probably won't want to fiddle.

Nobody should mess with vehicle settings that is not competent to do so. They could do damage & they could cancel safety features. Be so advised.
