Very annoying problem

The rain sensing wipers on my 08 C300 are dreadful. It was raining today and when I turned on the wipers they instantly went to full speed, definitely not needed. Then while driving they'll just stop for like 20 seconds and maybe work normally and then just go to full speed. I turn them off and on, full speed again. Full speed is very fast and it is really very irritating driving around like that with just normal rain. Everytime its raining with this car I'm in a bad mood.

Any ideas? I guess I have to take it to the stealer and have the rain sensor reprogrammed or replaced, really not a place where I wanna take my car.

LSA,

Considered opinion on this site recommend that you thoroughly clean the glass in front of your sensors.

I would try metho, petrol & a razor blade on its edge ( don't scratch the surface) to make sure the glass is perfectly clean.

Interested to know how you go. JC.

As JC says. Make sure there is no mineral deposit or silicone build up on the screen in front of the sensors. Bon Ami powder is recommended by some. (understand it is made from crushed egg shells according to Moviela).

Otherwise it requires recalibration with a Star. On my CLK the rain sensing wipers work very well. The CLK has no fewer than 8 screen mounted sensors & I don't know which is the rain sensor. I just keep the whole area free from mineral deposits. I use Coke. Just the right amount of phosphoric acid. Understand US Coke is no good as it uses corn syrup as the sweetner. Ours uses cane sugar.

OK, I'll be the dummy -- what does the actual sensor look like on the W204?

The rain sensor is located in front of the rear view mirror….

Just be safe and clean the whole windshield with Bon-Ami. It does a great job.
