Thinking of blacking out the chrome....

Hey guys, from a newbie.

I'm a recently proud owner of a Diamond white 2012 220 Cdi and as the title says, I have some plans to get rid of some chrome. For the chrome on the grill and trunk, I'll probably use plastidip but I have some concerns regarding the lower door trim chrome.
I have seen that some of you have removed them completely but I had a thought that I would use plastidip on them too

Is there anyone who has seen this done on any white W204, it would be interesting with a picture on it, or do you think it just looks weird?

I'm thinking about starting with this and waiting with the chrome around the windows....

Grateful for your thoughts and comments, good or bad

Probably one of the most common things done on a white W204. People black out the side markers and chrome around LED DRLs too. I don't like it very much, but it's very popular.

Pastidip does indeed look impressive, but in my honest opinion is very cheap, especially on a Mercedes-Benz a luxurious car. If you want to remove some of the chrome on the car I would recommend getting your chrome either gloss or matte black painted at a body shop somewhere, or if you do not want to paint your OEM parts, you could just find some gloss/matte black parts online somewhere. Now I do not know of this website will help you, but take a look around and see.

It's your car so I'd do whatever you like regardless of the comments. I do however associate the chrome "blackout" look with a lesser model trim.

If you look at more economical cars, the entry level models are usually the ones with unpainted/unchromed trim pieces.

You can always vinyl wrap the trim pieces like I did. Easier and cleaner than plasti-dip and you have glossy option.

Exactly this. The glossy black trim looks very clean. For example, on some BMW sport equipped models and the M models, "shadowline" glossy black trim is the sportier and more expensive option. 335is and M3 are two examples.

Before I decided on Mercedes, I looked at the Audi and there you have to pay pretty expensive to get black line with black optics package ....
So it is not always a sign of "cheap" just because it is black.
But it is like you say, up to each and everyone as long you are happy

I already checked out your thread and you were one of those guys who I think have done a great job on your car. Have you used the plastidip?

Really nicely done, but I'll probably use Plastidip, partly because of a rather large price difference and if I would change my mind and want to reverse, it feels unnecessary to have paid so much for the vinyl. But I like that you can get the glossy surface.
I can always upgrade at a later stage ...

If it helps you at all, I plastidipped my brother's aluminum trim on his bmw 335i and although it looks good, it's hard to clean and it doesn't look as high end as gloss would have. I got a quote for $175 for professionally done gloss vinyl for the trim; seems very reasonable to me. In my honest opinion, after having already done plastidip, I'd do it right the first time with vinyl. If you still want to try plastidip, its only a few hours of your time and $10 worth of plastidip. Good luck Op.

Gloss is definitely the way to go. Matches the pano roof.
