2014 C300
The dealer had my car for the weekend to be driven by the head technician. He found that it was not shifting properly! Finally!!! He said there was a software update that should fix the problem. I've driven the car for 2 days now andeverything seems fine. Will update if I have any more problems. Fingers crossed!

Just picked up a new 2014 C300 (ex-loaner). I can't find this MB Topic number online anywhere. I want to print it and give to the dealer when I see them on Monday.

Thanks,

2013 c300 4matic - Transmission jerking

Same problem here with transmission. It used to happen last year with more frequency, but it tends to happens when mainly weather is cold, as didn't experience it in summer. And
even after software update.

Wish there was a class action lawsuit against MB for this. Someone should start a petition id donate

MB updated the software on my car last week after I took it in for the transmission jerking problem. The car has been driving smoothly for the past 7 days without an incident.

The shifting initially feels a little different though. Even though I'm in eco mode, it feels more like Sport.

Hi Guys,

The 2 years lease on my 2014 C300 is coming to an end on October 1st. I have around 15k miles on it. It was in a collision last year and total repair cost was $15k.
MB buy off price in the lease contract is 30k.

Do you guys think I can negotiate and get the price down considering 15K damages?

Thanks for your inputs.

Btw I haven't experienced transmission jerks after the software update last August. However I hear a metal clunking noise when I put it in reverse, move it little and gently tap the brakes. Also hear the same metal noise when I start it first thing in the morning. Have to take it to the dealer again.

I would let the car go. No one really wants a car in an accident it sucks but let someone else deal with it. Plus hearing noise from the transmission seems like you've had issues in the past.

Transmission probs/ 2012 C Class

76000kms...oil dripping from trasmission area. Took it to dealer. 4 days later told it was OK. Drove it home...oil still dripping.
Back in again....5 more days and told it was fixed. Picked it up, drove home and oil now was practically running out. Back to dealership and told them I wanted it fixed properly. Service Manager called....now fixed. Told him to check it by moving car. Another pool of tranny fluid.
There were so many excuses including xray of the tranny da da da etc.
Tranny was taken out 3 times. Eventually it was a seal between the tranny and transfer case. Approx 23 days. Yes they gave me a loaner. Never again for a MB.
When I first bought the car the window switch(module) in a MB. 5 times in to fix it. Lovely car to drive/ the best.....reliability and Service dreadful....
Regards...ar

Hey guys, I have taken the time to go through this entire thread and I'm having the same problem with my car. Going from 2nd to 3rd gear the card has a harsh shift and it creates a jolting feeling. This is both Eco and Sports. I have an appointment tomorrow for an update but I'm going to bring it up. The last post here was from 2015 and I know I'm behind but anyone else still having this problem?

Live in the United States.

Dropping mine off at the dealer on Wed. for this problem. Hope they update the software or whatever. I've had this car for 3 months and I can already say it's outta here as soon as I can afford to get into another. Maybe I wont feel that way if my trans issue is resolved. We'll see.

I found this TSB info online regarding the 2011 c300 so yeah it's a known issue. I'll print this up and take it to the dealer in the morning. My 2014 has the same trans as the 2011's I believe. Hope this helps others here who are dealing with some crazy clunking and jolting.

Thumbs down Jolting problem

So i took mine once again to the dealership and the person who test drove it said that he felt something odd. However the fix that the technician recommended was to reset ECU and then to just reprogram the system. That has been done twice now and honestly its no fun driving such a nice car having this problem. Please let me know what they tell you POLARWHITE2014.

I experienced a loud jolt (like a car thumps at high speeds on uneven pavement) on two occasions when I accelerated hard over a year ago, but have not experienced it since. Is it a cause of worry worth bringing it up to the SA to see if it needs a software update or an inspection?

Fixed?

GF is looking to get a c300 (2013-2015) certified used.... Is this problem actually fixed? I see mixed responses from people with the software update.

Excuses Excuses from MB excuses. IT's not normal up/down warm or cold. Not acceptable for ''best'' engineered car. NB should be charged with fraud. This is not an intermittent problem this is a factory defect.

I'm having the same problem in my 2011. Jerking downshifts when slowing to a stop. Barley noticeable when the car is warm but very uncomfortable and embarrassing when it's cold.

I did not expect to pay +$50K for a new car and have it shift worse than any other car (including my $12K Civic!) that I have owned. Anyone get any resolution with this?

Btw does anyone have squeaking breaks problem when braking at low speeds downhill...specially when going into an basement garage?

Last month when I took it to the dealer ...they said all C class have this problem and they can't do anything about it....what a shame!
They had to change my brakes...but it’s new!!!

Has the software update solved the problem or made it worse? I’m wondering if I should take it in.

I haven’t read this whole thread, but YES, the latest software update eliminates the hard shifts and completely does away with the throttle lag when starting from a stop. Absolutely do it. It’s pretry amazing.
To be clear, this was a tranny software update, not ECU update.

Hi folks, just now reading through this post ... I bought my 2014 C350 in 2016 ... it had the exact symptom the OP described, a harsh downshift halfway up the hill going to my house. Took it to the dealer and they did the software update. Has shifted just fine ever since and no other complaints.

Hope that means they did finally fix the harsh downshift. I guess I was lucky I became a C owner after this problem was sorted out.

C300 jolt/jerking transmission problem

I have a 2013 c300 4 matic sport. I experienced some jolt/jerking in my shifting. My car has about 85000 miles on it. For me the fix was my front driveshaft. Cost me 1400 dollars at Firestone. The part itself was about $950. It was a 2 hour job. I hope this helps you guys. I thought it was one of my front axles which goes to the wheels. It was actually my front driveshaft.

Jerk Problem Solved

I imported my car from the USA in December 2018. It had 5,900 miles (9,500 km) on it only. It had been to the dealership in the US only twice for an oil and filter change. During my first week of driving it, I noticed the jerk that everyone spoke about in the forum. I would feel it the most when the car downshifts by itself from 3 to 2 and from 2 to 1 as I would be driving uphill and slowing down enough for the car to feel like it needs to downshift.

So, yesterday, I dropped it off at the dealership here and I asked them to update the Transmission Control Unit as per MB Topic/Bulletin Number L127.19-P-05-6610. When the service advisor called me, I explained to him the symptoms and what I read online on this forum and he said they will scan the car and perform all the available software updates.

When I picked the car up, I was told BOTH the transmission control unit and the engine control unit were updated. It cost me $147.

Driving the car home and testing it, I was not able to reproduce the problem. All the gear shifts were smooth. PROBLEM SOVLED.

@mikepottier I want to thank you for sharing the information with us. Much appreciated.
