Wiring problems when upgrading headlight bulbs

Service advisor told me not to use Silverstar (or any other brand) of headlight in my 2012 C 300 because he has seen wires melt on at least two vehicles. I am talking 55 watt replacement bulbs. Has anyone experienced this, or even heard of it?

As long as you don't use anything over 55 watt, then you should be ok and not overheat. Sounds like he wants you to buy OEM bulb which he will be happy to sell.

Perhaps others can chime in.
