Esp, run flat, Cruise control inoperative

Hi Guys,

Got a problem since couple weeks , this occur only on very cold day , -15 and lower.

I have a message in my board that tell me the ESP,Run flat, Cruise Control are inoperative , see driver manuel. I also notice that my flasher, buttons on the steering wheel are not working / illuminated & wiper works every 2-3 min when they are not activated. When the interior get warm up , after 10-15 Minute, the steering illuminated again and everything works.

Does someone have any clue ?

i was thinking about the Angle sensor in the steering ?

I need some advise , thanks.

The ESP, Run flat (haven't seen that one), cruise control inop. message is likely tied to a problem with one of the wheel speed sensors.

The hazards, steering wheel buttons, and wipers not working makes it sound like your front SAM is going bad.

It's either two separate issues, or a bad front SAM. My money is on the SAM unit.

First thing - change your battery.

Good point. I totally missed that. Battery should be checked out. It can cause all kinds of electrical funkyness if it's low / dying.

How do you know there is no problem with the battery? Because it starts the car? Meaningless. On my C (with 98K miles now), I have done two battery changes. In both cases when it was changed, here is what I saw:

My ESP would engage on its own, on totally dry pavement. Very scary stuff as you press on the gas and the car won't go. It would always happen right after startup and first driveaway, I would idle for a few minutes - no problems. The battery was marginal, I could tell it was under heavy charge because my V1 radar detector would laser false, an indication that the 12V supply to it was wavering - again, after a few minutes on the alternator - problem went away.

A new battery solved the problems both times.

Not saying this is it - but this is the least expensive attempt at a solution before you start looking at more exotic sensors. Remember when its cold, your battery is under heavier stress.

...It could still be the battery. If it's at the end of its life, but not quite dead yet, it can throw electrical gremlins by disrupting the electrical system because it's not feeding the car enough juice. The colder it is out, the more this problem would be exacerbated. After you've driven for a while you've warmed up the battery, and you've given the alternator time to charge it enough to correct the problem, until the next time it sits a while. This can and does happen, in any car.

Well, maybe something would show up in a load test. How old is the battery? If its 3 years old - just replace it. I replaced my battery twice already on a 2009 W204.

No battery is good for any specific length of time. It varies hugely based on how often the car is driven, how long those drives are, how hot / cold your area is, how often you run accessory power without the engine on, and numerous other factors. The general 'rule of thumb' number that seems to be in the ball-park is 5 years. It can vary a lot though. A GOOD load test done correctly will always give you a solid look at the health of the battery. Problem is, a lot of 'load tests' aren't true load tests and are inaccurate. Especially with MB batteries due to their larger than normal capacity, which can throw off some less accurate load testers.

2013 C250 Coupe
Hi Guys I need Help Please.
I have a 2013 Mercedes Benz C250 Coupe.
Just recently the following messages appeared on my dash and want to know what the problem could be and how to fix it.
"ESP inoperative See Owners Manual"
"Run Flat Indicator Inoperative"
"Cruise Control Inoperative"
This also cause the stop start fuction on the vehicle not to work.

Please advise what the problem might be.

Thank
Vincent
