Transmission leaking oil? (pics)

Hi guys

I recently got my service B done at a reputable shop in Toronto (McNally's Auto). After the oil change, the mechanic called me over and asked me if I am still under the warranty. Thankfully I was. He then showed me how there was a leak in the transmission compartment. I immediately called to book an appointment with MB. Hopefully I will get a free transmission fluid flush while I get this fixed up (my transmission flush coming soon)

I will keep u guys updated

What year is your car? (Hint: Please fill out your profile correctly)

Is it a 4matic?

Not trying to scare you or anything, but I had a similar leak on our C300. The transfer case was leaking oil. Dealer resealed it. 8K miles later, the whole transfer case failed and the car needed a new transmission since the transfer case is integrated into the trans on these cars.

Hmm ok, I will keep that in mind ! thanks so much?
If that happens, will that be under warranty as well?

Well, if you're still within the warranty period, then yes, warranty will cover it. However, the dealer will want to have proof that you were doing your trans fluid changes on schedule.

Okay, Thank u for the great info!

I recently bought this car used from MB dealer Cert. pre-owned (45000 kms). Now I am sitting at about 53000 kms. Didnt have to get any trans fluid changed in between. Isnt the trans fluid changed at 60000 kms?

thanks again

Yes, here in the US it's every 39K miles, so that's about every 60K km, roughly.

my c300 developped a similar leak at the junction of the transfer case and the A/T. Of ourse noted one week after 4 year warranty finished. Dealer wanted 1500 USD.
MB USA picked up the tab, good will gesture (or maybe my insistance that this is not to happen on an MB that is 4 years old with 35k miles.)

Some things should not happen, and this is one of them. MB did the right thing here. This type of leak should never occur.

thank you for the info! i git my car certified pre owned. so my car will have a used car warranty. and one more question this may sound dumb but, what kind of coverages for the warranty i get if i purchase cpo vehicle given that i will not get extended warranty. is it just 2years after the original warranty??

my understanding is cpo adds 2 years and up to 100k.

Do not flush it, they may use a flush fluid which is detrimental to the trans. They should pump it out of the torque converter [if there is no drain plug], using clean ATF fluid.

Actually, it's 1 year in the US, but 2 years in Canada, from what I've read.

I had the same problem with my 2010 C300 4Matic at about 38,000 miles. Luckily I bought it used with CPO to 100,000 miles. They did indeed replace the transmission as someone above cited that the transfer case and the transmission are integrated.

My current issue is that the fuel economy has declined by about 15%, you can feel it takes more power to get the car moving than it did before, and at 75 MPH there is a noticeable vibration.

I've been waiting to see if the fuel economy improves thinking maybe it's a break-in issue. Back to the shop.
