Fog Light Issue

Hey guys,

I have a slight issue with my right side fog light on the car. Last April I picked up a rock chip on the light and it cracked the glass on the light. Well it was not noticeable enough for me to feel the need to replace it. Fast forward to today. I was driving the car and I happened to run into what I suppose to be another rock chip hitting the glass on the fog light. This time it completely took out the glass on the fog light. Here is some pictures.

I have several questions:

1. How hard is it to replace the fog light?
2. How much work would it be to replace both of the fog lights with the newer L.E.D. ones? (I do not know if this is possible to do. This seems like more work since I would have to enable them to be DRL's)

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

1. It really isn't that difficult replacing the fog light housing yourself. Remove the 3 torx screws holding the black mesh surrounding the fog light. After removing the black mesh, you should be able to see or feel the screws locking the fog light housing in place. There's a video done by member XxHotelCrazyxX on youtube teaching you how to remove the fog light housing.

You can find the fog lights on Amazon or buy from your local dealership for about $90 to $110 a piece.

You can also purchase some Lamin X films to protect the fog lights from future rock chips.

2. IMHO, the fog lights are far more useful compared to the LED DRL's.
Replacing the fog lights with DRL's would require much more work compared to replacing the fog light housing. There was a DIY done somewhere if you use the search function.

Good luck!

I think on the sport, the fog light is R&R'd from the back. I could not access the screws from the front. In any case, it is easy to do.

I see what you are saying. I think I will just stick with replacing the fog light.

I do have a sport. Am I going to have to go thru the wheel well and replace it that way then?

This is the video I was talking about, from XxHotelCrazyxX.
He removes his fog light in this

If you don't have the proper tools, it will be much easier to access the fog lights from the wheel well. Here's the video that shows you how to open up your wheel well.

Very nice. That helped a lot. I never really looked too hard at the fog light area. I found those screws on mine and I have the proper tools to do it. Seems very easy to do.

Next question, where can I find a parts catalog so I can get the part number of what I need?

OEM passenger side fog light part number is 204 820 2256.

The search function is very useful in this case!

Hey guys, I went and finally purchased a used one on Ebay. Took me some time, it was hard to find one. I should be getting it soon and the Fog Light will be fixed.

I had the same exact issue. Options are check with your MB dealer, in some models you can change the glass only. But most likely for this model you will have to replace the whole fog light.

I ordered these online from CARID.com the dealer asks for $130 approx. I found these for $40. Or you can order used ones from ebay.

If you want to wait i'm going to install them this Friday when I get them. I can keep you updated!

The link looks like it's not the Sport Package H7 fogs from the pre face lift. Those look like the H11 fogs from the luxury models.

Yea that was what I was thinking too. I wanted to just try to replace the glass but that seemed like that was something that could not be done.

Hey guys, I have the Fog Light installed and everything seems to be back to normal. I was looking at the Lamin-X clear covers for the fog lights to protect against future issues. I couldnt find them anywhere on the internet except Amazon really. The price I found them at was $21 shipped. Is that basically the best price that I can get them for or do you guys know of any better deals on them?

I installed the Lamin-X protectant film over the fog light earlier. Looks great. I now feel confident that I will not have to replace the fog light again.

I suffered the same fog light fate twice. Last October I bought new OEM fogs and installed them myself. I'm running Phillips Diamond Vision bulbs.

I also installed the Lamin-X film on the lenses to help prevent another cracked lens... 1 month after putting the lamin-x on, I started my car to warm it up (the outside temp was 30) and switched on my eyelids/fogs. When I came back out 15 minutes later, I noticed smoke coming from the front of my car. Here's what happened to the Lamin-X........

Take a picture of it and you should be able to claim warranty from Lamin X. Member (SavageC300… iirc) did just that.

I didn't know they had a warranty. I just emailed them and wrote a review to "nudge" them a little. Thanks for the info!
