AUTO lights Inoperative

Not to mention, I can understand automatic wipers not working if that sensor was bad. But I have no operation of wipers with this error. I would really hope something like that would cause a hazard of your wipers not working. I am going to have to start tracing wires out checking for shorts myself. No faith in the stealership and their over pricing .... To not even know how to fix a problem

Old tsb
So I found an old tsb that said to let the car run and get to ambient temps. I let it idle with the heater on till I got hit inside. Turned it off and back in. Problem was gone. Anyone know if that wiper/light sensor could actually cause that or is there something in the upper module??

Ive found that helps sometimes, I called for pricing for the upper computer and it's over $1200.
The car shows no codes scanned multiple times. It comes and goes, my wipers work the lights work too. The auto function only works manually when the warning lights up.
It seems like it could be the headlight computer that's close to the headlights. I got this issue only after the duck in the headlight incident and they had to replace the headlight and computer behind the headlight.

Problems
the tsb says to replace the wiper/light sensor but that was on older models but I able to replicate the problem. It’s got a new rain/light sensor so going to order the upper control computer.

Replaced the upper sunroof module
That did not fix the problem either. Once again just running the heat for a bit and the problem goes away. Even with the new unit. Thought for sure that would be it. Seems this is a hazard from Mercedes they need to address. I can understand something not making automatic wipers not working. But to lose all functionality is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Same with my Harley when my abs went out and it completely stopped my brakes from working. No sensor should impede a device used for safety.

This is crazy I've been digging deep in other forums people said they had to replace the whole headlight and computer to fix the issue. That's really expensive, I don't mind letting the car get to temps. For mine everything functions lights, wipers only things that don't are active curve and auto high beam but high beams work if I do it manually.
After 20 minutes of driving once I restart the car the messages all go away, in the summer I never have the issues

Well I've let her sit for about 2 months now, driving my other vehicle. Took her out the other, everything started working after warming up as usual. Then i was driving down the interstate in rain, and bam, Stopped working again in middle of a storm. This is a very bad problem. I refuse to let stealership try and diagnose a wiring issue when in fact I know its not a wiring issue. I've gone thru with a meter, I've checked for shorts and grounds. I come up empty.

If I had all these symptoms I'd definitely go to a dealer to diagnose. When I get the messages it's so random but everything works except for active curve feature.
The dealership only charges 175$ to diagnose it might be worth it in your case.

Problem is, they said they didn't find anything. Already dropped a good bit of cash for them to replace parts that did nothing. They said it was a short, they want to replace ecu's, canbus, They are not diagnosing a problem. They are wanting to throw parts at the car till they hit the jackpot. While at the same time running up a bill. No thank you. Someone out there has fixed this problem. Dealer ship can suck it.

So I've been thinking I only get this message when the windshield is filthy, I have thousands of pits I need a new windshield. I'm thinking maybe this is causing some of the sensors to act up even though everything works I still get the code when my car is filthy

Steering Control Module
So I have replaced the steering control module with a used unit off of Ebay. So far so good. Will updated after sometime to see if this fixed the problem.

I didn’t lock the door with the remote and let the car be in the parking lot for 5 hours and when I came back the battery was dead. I gave the car a jump and everything was fine except an Auto lights inoperative message, though all the lights were working fine.
I went to mechanic and he said that I need to change the battery. I searched on google and found a blog explaining auto lights inoperative malfunction. They believe it might be due to the vehicle's LRSM (light and rain sensors) failure and changing LRSM will resolved the problem.
Does anyone know if changing LRSM can remove this message? Here is the blog I read https://xenons4u.co.uk/blog/mercedes...how-to-fix-it/

i changed the rain sensor it didn't work for me. my car was totalled so never got a chance to truly find the issue. i believe either moisture its into the module or you need to take the headlight apart and see if the gear is messed up there's videos online for 08-11 w204s. sorry i couldn't help!
