but does the whining sound... is that like an electric motor from a R/C car? I picked up 2012 C250, and when I am starting off, I can definitely hear that sound. Was curious if this was the sound everyone else heard.

Thank you
Um, alternator whine?

Got a wirling sound

I believe it's the pump in the transmission. Slight "whir" at lower speeds. Talked about in other threads and not believed to be an issue.

My C250 developed the whirring sound, not loud but annoying at about 21k. They replaced the oil pump, the balance shaft and what else I can't recall. No help. In the shop for 6+ weeks. MBUSA finally put a new engine in. And gave me credit for 3 mos lease payments. Gotta love the warranty and customer service!

You are describing an alternator whine. When they start to go bad they'll make a pitched whine sound. It should change pitch with the direction of the rpms...higher or lower respectivly. You can pull the belt off the alternator and start the motor. If the sound is goes away you know it's time for a new one. It's an easy install...maybe an hour.

uh oh... Any idea if this is covered under the manufacturer's warranty?

Guess I'll look around to see if I can pick up an alternator to get installed (not terribly handy)

thank you for any info.
