Another offset thread 2011 4matic

I have my flame suit on,
but please be patient.
I have scoured google and the search function.

I have read through all of the "offset" thread
and nothing is that clear to me.
So please help me out.
I have a 2011 c300 4matic, I am reading 18x 8.5/9.5 35et or anything lower is basically a no go.
However, I have seen on this thread a guy "fattysnax"
Who has a 4matic and says he is running 32/40et

So I am just lost.
All the good wheels are 30/32/35 etc etc

I am wondering if I could run a
18x8.5/9.5 42et all around
18x8.5/9.5 32/40 or 35/42
etc etc

I have the factory staggered 17's on it right now.
I just cannot for the life of me find much on 4matic offsets and what WILL work vs what is recommened (45/50 etc)

All the wheels I am finding that I love (Lm reps) are in the 30's.

PLEASE help me.
