Temp Gauge Reading - What's Normal?

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here. I purchased a 2011 C300 Sport 4matic with 16k mileage this past weekend. I've had the car for a few days and so far I love it. It's solid, comfortable, and great for daily driving. I am just trying to make sense of how Mercedes-Benz has engineered their temperature gauge read out.

Under the normal mix of highway and side roads I've done so far, I've seen the temperature gauge fluctuate a bit above the half mark between 85-95 or so. It's not bouncing all over like there is a dramatic problem, but it's strange seeing temperature swing up and down.

I know a lot of automakers hide this fluctuation by keeping that needle exactly halfway unless their is a problem and I'm sure MB is just exacting in their read out, but just for my own knowledge I'd like to ask if this is normal.

Is it normal for the temperature gauge to read exact temperature, and if so, what is the common range for these cars to run between?

Also attached a photo of my readout at idle this evening after a short drive. Appreciate any help!

The 3 plate electronic thermostat allows temperatures to range between 85 deg C & 100 deg C dependent on conditions. Normal approx 90 deg.

If it ranges outside this the car will throw a P0128 code.
