I wonder if we paid for the parts to get it replaced, or got work done; would the dealer reimburse us?

Mercedes is recalling 252,867 of its C-Class sedans in the United States because an electrical issue could cause the tail lights to dim or fail, according to documents filed with U.S. safety regulators.
Mercedes, a unit of Germany's Daimler AG, is recalling certain C300, C350 and C63 sedans from model years 2008 through 2011 as a poor electrical ground connection could cause the tail lights to dim or fail, raising the risk of a crash, according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Mercedes officials were not immediately available to comment.
In 2009, Mercedes received five field reports in which a loss of tail lamp was due to loss of electrical connection, but the cause was unknown at that time and designated for further study, according to the NHTSA documents.
Last year, NHTSA opened an investigation into the issue and Mercedes responded with information in October, according to the documents. NHTSA requested further information in March 2014, and in preparing to respond, Daimler decided to conduct the recall.
Dealers will replace the bulb holders if not previously updated and replace any corroded connectors, NHTSA said. Parts are not currently available. Owners will be sent an interim notification in June and a second letter will be sent when the parts are available, which is expected in August or September, NHTSA said.

Wow, finally they did it, and only because they were backed into a corner it seems. Looks like they voluntarily recalled the cars to save face, instead of answering to the NHTSA which, based on the huge number of failures, would have almost certainly forced a recall.

 

Does this apply in Canada as well?

 

Now, if they can do this again, but for the ELS/EIS failures...

 

will all w204 owners be notified via mail or only those whose vehicle are suspected to be included in the recall? I own a 2011 c300 4matic sport...

 

Same question. I called my MB dealer last week and they said they did not have word of this recall yet. however there is a camshaft solinoid recall on the car too. So call and see.. The associate told me it may take a few weeks for this recall to hit the floor

 

what's this bs about parts not being available until august-september? People paid for the fix and parts were available.

 

What years is the cam shaft solenoid recall for? My car is going into the dealer on Tuesday for a warranty repair so I'd like to have that done as well if my car is one of the recalled models.

Any idea why this doesn't apply to e-class as well with same issue? I have an e350 with a melted connector and mercedes couldn't care less.

 

hasn't happened enough to start a recall probably.. or hasn't caused a big enough issue to look into it

 

I got a letter in the mail informing me of this recall... It said that another letter will be delivered when the parts are available to address the issue. How can I tell if my car is already suffering from this recall problem? My car has to go in for a warrantee issue soon anyway...

 

Take a look at the tail light connector

 

I'm located in Montreal Canada and got the letter today mentioning the tail light recall. They will contact me when parts arrived….So far got no problem with the lights and did an inspection of the plugs and nothing to report...

 

I got my letter about 2 weeks ago! My connectors look fine, but I will still have it checked out when I go for service...

 

Letter said you are due a refund if you paid for the repair.

 

I got mine in the mail to, when in last week for service, they said it's a new recall and the parts won't be in until August.

This is a known problem, the wiring harness heats up and melts the circuit board, already happened on my 2008 C350 2 years ago.

By the way, can you email me the instructions on how to replace the temp sensor? I can't print out the ones that you posted. Where did you get those by the way? Is it a DVD that I can purchase?

Is this limited to the US only or is it world wide. On of my taillights seems darker than the other at night.

 

I believe the recall applies to Canada as well as the build originated from the same factory.
I ordered and bought my W204 in the U.S. in 2007 (a 2008 model), but I moved to Canada three years ago and imported my car here with all the proper paperwork and procedures. I haven't received a letter yet, but I recently had my A0 service and I had asked my MB dealership about the recall. The dealership was aware of the recall and mentioned that not everyone had received the recall letter yet and they don't have the parts to perform the recall fix yet.

 

2009 C230.

Right side tailight was dim. Checked the connector, the ground wire was fried.

Took it to the dealer the next day and they fixed it under the recall.

No charge.

This is for Ontario, Canada, but the recall is worldwide.

 

Tail light error message just popped up on my dash today..
I received a letter from MB mentioning they would contact
me when to come in which was about a month & 1/2 ago

 

We got the letter too saying the same thing. Go to the dealer and they will do it.
