Comand NTG 4.0 Retrofit Question
Just wanted to ask any professionals or anyone with experience working with retrofitting a Comand Navi Unit NTG 4.0.
I've come across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-C-class-W204-Comand-Changer-NTG-4-sat-nav-HDD-navigation-system-/271469306675?pt=UK_AudioTVElectronics_GPSSystems_GPSSystems&hash=item3f34d4e333
Seems like it has the unit, screen, and GPS antenna and says it's plug and play. I'm assuming its a European unit with maps of Europe. Seller seems confident it will work replacing audio 20.
Part no. is A 204 900 59 03
According to this thread, https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...-retrofit.html, the part numbers don't match and there seems to be a bit more to it when installing the upgraded navi. (voice control, US maps, air vent, coding with STAR, cooling fan etc.)
Can some let me know and advise me if this unit will work on my car?
I'm about to pull the trigger, but want to make sure. Thanks in advance to all the members.

This topic was covered a few times, you can probably find the old threads using the search function.
In addition to the unit, you also need a few additional parts.
The local MB dealer quoted me $4k for just the labor.

Yes, I've tried searching and got mixed answers. Some said they needed additional parts while others said you just need the unit, screen, and antenna.
I mentioned already in my original post the additional parts, but...

You get get the COMAND and Screen for ~1500 on ebay. To be perfectly honest a lot of the parts listed you can get away with not using.
You can re-wire the existing harness and do not have to put in the new air vent and buttons. I NEVER use mine anyhow. Depending on your location.. you can also get away without the blower.
GPS antenna... get one on ebay for $20. They work great.
EDIT: Be aware that you will almost certain have issues with SCN coding and possibly the MOST ring config (if you get a Euro model).

I did retrofit my car (2008C350), it's NOT easy as plug & play as some people said. Beside all the parts you need (big center screen, center console unit, which is included the HD Navi map & 6 disk changer, Navi antenna), you need the center console switch, also some tube for the NAVI cooling, also you must have SDS to tell you car that NOW it has Navigation (I added backup camera while doing this), most MB dealer refuse to do this due to the complex of the electronic, but I am able to find the MB guru do this for me, it's NOT cheap, labor cost about $US 1,000.00 (no parts yet), depend on where & how much the parts cost you. You need help, PM me. Anything is possible, but money is the limit ($2000-2500) in my case. Do some research, somewhere on the forums, someone sell the system for $800 (still need some more parts). Do a search on W204 thread. Good luck.

Update time, folks. So I received the item a couple weeks ago and began the install right away. Pretty simple process, just take everything out, unplug the old system, replug with new Comand unit, rewire existing power harness for the screen, and run antenna wire through A pillar. Once set, power the bad boy up, change the language settings to English, and update the maps and data to N. American 2012 maps v9.0, change some settings in Engineering Mode to US, Internal Amp ON, MOST set OFF, Video Aux OFF, and Audio Aux ON and I was good to go.
Bluetooth, radio, navi, voice commands, music register, memory card, DVD/CD player, everything works flawlessly. Fortunately, it has the latest firmware update and the newest maps uploaded.
Took about 1.5 hours for physical install, 2 hours to update DVD Map. Has the factory look and feel and I must say I'm pretty impressed with this system. Voice prompts are fast and accurate, internal amp sounds much better than audio 20, screen quality is great, navi is easy to use, maps look really good and user interface is clean. Love the extra multimedia entertainment additions. It's a real enhancement to the overall driving experience.

Thank you. Simple enough for me. Look up some YouTube vids to see how to remove headunit out. Should be self explanatory. Honestly, you only need the comand headunit, larger screen, GPS antenna, revised power harness for screen, DVD maps (for US). That's pretty much it. Everything was plug and play.

from what i see you are missing the knobs to flip the screen or close it and you have not provided the extra cooling the NTG4 unit needs due to extra heat?

Thank you. I'm enjoying the car a lot more now. I have plenty of exterior mods, I thought it was time for an interior upgrade.
It does come with the buttons to open/tilt and close the screen but because I have the regular HVAC vents, I rewired them underneath the ashtray for a cleaner look. The cooling fan hasn't been an issue for me as I haven't had any issues. In engineering mode you can set the auxiliary fan speed according to temp. I also made a little opening in the central vents to allow A/C to flow down into the comand unit below.
