Rebadge: C30MT :-)
Rebadge: C30MT :-)
So, I was a bit sad that C300 Automatics get that nice 4Matic emblem, but my poor manual 6-speed gets no such love.
I thought to remove the C300 badge as I had done on previous cars...but then thought, hmmm, maybe I can do something unique that signifies manual transmission without being a poser and putting "C63 AMG" emblems on my car...lol. Came up with this:
"C" = it is a C-Class
"30" = 3.0L Engine
"MT" = Manual Transmission
Was going to do C300MT, but it was too long.

The "MT" was from a 4Matic OEM emblem.

I like it, looks cool. However, if I did that to my car (if I had a manual), my wife would say "it looks as though you are trying too hard".

Either way, no hate here. I've had the mod bug ever since I got my 3rd car over a decade ago so I know the feeling quite well (a little here...a little there...it never ends). I'm just recovering from the Jedi-mind trick my wife pulled on me a week ago in that she convinced me to remove my small american flag emblem from the grill. But now that it's wearing off, I might put it back.

Yes, but you can counter and say those items aren't noticed unless the car is running. A re-badge however can be seen 24/7.

I've been through over a dozen cars - as crazy as fiberglass rebodies, air suspension, engine swaps, etc. so keeping close to stock with this C300 is so hard for me...but I feel so scared to mess anything up since it's so pretty as-is. So I do little things (like rebadge) where I can :-)

4Matic does not mean automatic. It means all wheel drive. It has a transfer case and a front differential. Interestingly, all 4Matic in North America have automatic gearbox unless one imported a European version.
I dunno, from Wikipedia: "the name is derived from 4-wheel drive and automatic."
http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/benz/performance/4matic
"Elegantly simple: the core components of 4MATIC
A transfer case, integrated within the 7-speed automatic transmission, feeds power to the front axles. A limited-slip center differential provides balanced power between the front and rear axles.And the 4-wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS) uses sensors already in the vehicle for its Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP®),to precisely manage the torque demands of each wheel."
Seems that 4matic by default is part of the 7-speed auto transmission.
Going a bit off-topic...and not trying to start an argument...lol:

If we look at your earlier source of Wikipedia, here is an extended quote:
Almost all Mercedes-Benz vehicles featuring this system have an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_transmission as standard equipment (except 260 and 300 gasoline and aspirated 300 D were standard with manual transmission)
So, we see "almost all", not "all". Some 4MATIC vehicles indeed had a manual transmission. The loss of that feature has more to do with the decline in manual transmission, but the 4MATIC name relates wholly to the automatic nature of the all wheel drive system.
No argument here....just discussion. I think this an issue of correlation vs. causation. MB may have more recently chosen to standardize automatic transmission with all wheel drive, and then integrated the design for efficiency, but in the world of all wheel/4 wheel drive and transfer cases, some are manually selectable and some are essentially "invisible"...the additional two wheels are activated automatically. The term "4MATIC" indicates this system is the latter, and not, for example, "Selec-Trac" as found on some Jeeps, which indicates one must make a selection for the drive configuration.

Actually, I'm not a 4MATIC fan....costlier to purchase, to maintain, to repair, extra weight over the front wheels which tends to understeer, more fuel consumption.....for what benefit? I get through winters in Michigan very well with my manual trans rear wheel drive C300 with dedicated winter tires, and then don't have to carry around all that weight and the associated penalties all year long to just maybe get moving from a red light a bit more easily. We're not going off road with these cars!! 4MATIC does nothing in the winter to help with braking and turning....the stuff that can save your life! That's where the dedicated winter tires really win the day.
Just my honest opinion: If I saw that on the road I would be wondering what's wrong with the owner. Kind of bizarre. I do understand people who debadge though. Nothing weird about that.

Seriously, how do you get around when the roads aren't almost perfectly flat and smooth?
PS....where in Southern California is Reppin? I put it in Google Maps and nothing shows up? I was wondering where you had such great roads!
