Mercedes Benz oil question

I bough two 5 liter grey cans of oil at dealership spec is MB 229.5.
It is labelled:
Mercedes Benz-MB 229.5-A 000 989 83 01 BAA4.
Which oil excactly is in this can, dealer does not know, they just put it in all cars including AMG engines.
I would like to know the viscocity.

MB run 0w 40 mobil in most of their engines.
I run 5w 40 shell ultra much cheaper and no problems in tropics.
Go on the shell web site of your country and you will found some recommended fluids for your car.
My car got the m271 engine and hold 5.5 liters of oil .

That spec covers 5W-30 & 5W-40. I believe SA uses 5W-40. They are dumb not to put it on the can.

Thanks Glyn, thats exactly the holder (5L),I also noted the cans has not got a proper seal(Silver) like other makes I bought for other vehicles.

One thing I noticed is the noise my engine made on startup sometimes,.. lost most of the sound some time ago after I complained. I assume they changed the oil from 0W-40 to 5W-40. I will see when I change it myself from now on. I noticed that the sound is completely away after each oil change for some time/km's, which make me believe 1-the oil does not hold up exactly uniformly with use in engine, 2-just the wrong grade. The noise started after the 1st service, so the oil afterwards could have been different than the factory fill.
