I got my C250 sedan base with steel grey color out the door at $36K flat included tax and license etc. Not the craziest deal but according to the truecar.com, this is the price of the lowest 5% people pay. Hope this give you as a starting point.

There's a $2250 incentive on the MY14 C-Class right now. Some dealers (at least from what I've been told by my local dealer) have additional flexibility to double this incentive on a limited basis to move MY14 cars. Combined with the 3% holdback and the fact that you live in California, you should be able to get at least $3k below invoice on the MY14 C-Class. Local dealer here in Los Angeles was doing even more, $3.5-4k below.
