This! I cannot stress how much I regret getting 19's sometimes. Driving through downtown Houston is always anxiety inducing. They look nice, but if I could go back I would get 18's...maybe even stick to the 17's.

Factory ordered 2012 MB C350 w/Dynamic Handling Package
For performance....18's all the way.
In general, you want to go as small as you can that your brakes will allow, however for me, my limit is a sidewall size of 45 and below.
From a cost perspective, try to stay away from 19s. I know this might sound counter intuitive, but 19 inch tires actually cost more than 20s.

I actually considered these rims. Ended up with 19s niche m149 instead. Interestingly I went with Toyo Proxes 4 plus and they almost feel like stock ride. But 19s do look a little too big for my car. Specially with stock height.

I've had 17s, 18, and 19s and 18s are definitely the best compromise between comfort and performance - especially on a lowered car. I had 17s on my C300 lowered with super sport springs and the ride felt soft and a little spongy, especially in the corners. Then I went to 19s and the car handled like it was on rails but I could feel every little pebble on the road. Hitting a pothole felt like getting punched in the kidneys. When I bought my C350, I opted to keep the OEM 18 AMG wheels but still lower on SS springs and I'm super happy with the setup. It's low and performs really well without being too harsh. I also got the dynamic handling package which is really nice - especially on the highway. If I put it in sport mode it feels really stiff and handles like a sports car but when just cruising on the highway in comfort mode, it feels like a comfy sedan. I still consider 19s every now and then because I love the look, but every time I think back to having them on the C300 and how harsh they feel...ungh...18s are just fine.

I agreed with you.
