I'm new to the Mercedes world (lowly 2010 C300 owner), but is it weird that I like the model of the CLAs better than the new C Class?

I don't see why people are so offended by this thread.. there is a reason why brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. have classified their cars by certain groups and its usually because they use nicer materials, built better, and/or carry more prestige (hence the higher price-tags). I'm sure there are E-class owners who feel the same way towards C-class drivers, and then S-class owners who feel the same way towards E-class drivers (etc, etc.)

I think the OP's statement is true though. Younger adults generally don't have a lot of money, so luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW were never really obtainable for this population. But now with 1-series, CLAs, and A3s available as examples, they are more in reach. So, being that the younger population generally drives more recklessly, it's easy to see the correlation that the OP speaks of.

But regardless of make or model of car, a person who is a tool will always be a tool. There are kids out there who think their Honda's are "better" than a BMW 320i because they are "just as fast," but I digress. Again, generally speaking, the younger population tends to have more immature tools around compared to the older population. My 2 cents

i'd say that's a bit of a stretch with the CLA45 considering it goes faster in reverse than your 300 goes in D

Mercedes-Benz prices all their vehicles and class models differently for a reason. They are not just arbitrarily priced as the company needs to make money somehow on every vehicle they plan to sell. One person may prefer a CLA over a C, while another prefers a C over a CLA but at the end of the day, these are subjective preferences. The fact of the matter is, Mercedes would price-match the CLA to the C-class if it were the same quality.

Haha don't get me wrong xjaymzzx, same applies to every brand of cars. It just seems like the luxury brands seem to differentiate their classes/models more prominently

anyways you should compare amg to amg. So C63 amg > CLA45.

Might as well compare a CLA to my family's bentley if you want to go outside of comparisons. We're talking about Daily driving cars and not weekend cars.

lol
Thx for another chuckle and entertaining response

To be fair, AMGs really should only be compared with other AMGs. It's not fair to compare a car that has a hand-built engine to a car that has an engine fresh off a belt-line.

I have both a c300 4matic w204 sports and a CLA 45 AMG.
I can personally say from real world experience the 45 is much more enjoyable and much more reliable then my c300.
64.000 dollar car is not so cheap.

I could of easily purchased a C63 AMG NEW. found the 45 much more capable for all season driving and fantastic performance .

2012 C63 AMG Sedan
W204 C63 owner here.

I'm going to say this thread really is pointless, because it really is all a matter of preference. You could say that the CLA is for people who can't afford a C class, but that is of course comparing apples to apples, new to new. A person who can afford a new CLA can afford a used w204 C class. Would that make you feel their car is still worse?

The other day, I took my fiance car shopping. Had her test drive the new W205 C300. I loved it, great car. I didn't want to test drive the CLA but as she was pulling back into the dealership shes like wow that is a cute car! Love the styling! I internally groaned and we had test drove about 6 cars that day already from as many dealerships, so I was like come on, we are test driving this thing now. Guess what? it doesnt drive the same and interior is definetely a step below the C, but the outside styling was what she loved.

In other words, its not all about price points sometimes as many of you are stating here. I can afford both the CLA and the C new, but she liked the CLA more because it looks so cute to her (after driving it she had a different opinion of the car). Many of my buddies who are a little older than me thought I was crazy for buying my C63 when I could have that sick CLS they all liked. Guess what? It's my choice and I love my car.

TL;DR - It's all about preference more so than price and I wouldn't look down on anyone because there is always someone who has nicer stuff. To each his own.

ya c63 amg is a lil rough on all season driving (winter driving). how does your cla amg handle in snow compared to your c300? Just wondering.

As a fellow Mercedes owner I must say, I'm completely embarrassed for you putting a post up like that.
