Question Rotors & Brake Pad Question

Hello guys,

I just completed my Transmission & Service A at the dealer and they said my rotors and pads are almost finished. They quoted me like $580'ish. I am a DIY'er so I was think I can just do it at home. The problem I'm finding is what are the correct brake pads/rotors that I need. I have 08 C300 Luxury. I was look online and prices range from $30-150 per rotor. What have you guys bought? And where did you purchase them? How hard was the installation? And I guess anything else that relates to it.

Thank you,

Akebono pads are your best bet and Zimmerman drilled and slotted rotors. There are probably several places you can get them closer to where I got mine at http://www.rockauto.com/ in New Jersey.

They were cheaper to buy them from there and have them shipped here than what they were to buy here. Got them within a week. I have had the rear pads on for about 3000kms and there is negligible dust compared to the rears which will go on next week.

Thank you,
I am tired of cleaning the rims twice/week on my C350. I bought a set of OEM front rotors & Akebono pads (Amazon), have the mechanic replace the rotors & pads, NO MORE brake dust, I do not see any different between the brake (OEM & Akebono), everything come up (that including labor) to $360. But not to clean the rims often make me a happy camper !!!.

Lol, that is impossible. You either don't have OEM pads or blind . I have the same car and the amount of dust that the OEM pads produce is worse than any other car I've owned. It was so bad that some cars had the rear oem pads replaced under warranty for excessive brake dust.

I went with Akebo pads and oem rotors and dust is pretty much gone now. The grip is pretty much the same.

I did them myself and there's nothing out of the ordinary to change them. It's like any other break job. Just make sure you have torx bits for the calipers/carriers.
Also if you're doing the rotors too, just take off the bolts of the carriers and the calipers will come off together with the carriers. Two bolts per side, make sure you clean and scrub all the caked on dust from any moving point. That's it.

My car was serviced at Mercedes dealer in Escondido, they used brake pads (and other parts) on my C350:

001-989-94-51 Brake Paste
005-420-13-20 Brake Lining (front)
211-540-17-17 Brake Wear Sensor (front)
005-420-42-20 Brake Lining (rear)
211-540-17-17 Brake Wear Sensor (rear)

So far, absolutely NO DUST (no black carbon dust) on my wheels. I was thinking maybe MB is using all-new dustless brake pads. Can anyone confirm that the part number 005-420-13-20 is dustless brake pads??
