Issues pumping gas into C250

Hi,

I am leasing a 2014 C250 and the car has been giving me problems after 5 months of use. Basically, when I try pumping gas into my car the gas pump will automatically shut off when I am no where near filling my gas tank full. A lot of times, the pump will instantly click off preventing me from putting almost any gas into the my car at all. It is uncommon for me to attempt to fill at a gas station and having to go to a different gas station down the road to put gas into my car. I've tested multiple gas pumps and brands and have not found a single gas station where it will work perfectly.

Anyone here having similar issues and/or tips? I went to my Mercedes Benz dealership where I bought my car 3 times for this issue. 2 out of the 3 times they kept my car for a whole week trying to figure out what's wrong with the car. This last time they claimed that they were unable to replicate the issue and just gave back my car with me without repairing anything.

I have a few videos that I have showing the problem I am having and uploaded them to youtube.

So again, I ask if any of you have similar experiences and custom fixes? It seems my dealership wont work with me in fixing a car that is under warranty.

Thanks

My C250 no problems getting gas, but the nozzle at gas pumps out here in the midwest don't look like your pictures..here they are all metal and the part that goes into the gas tank is about 1-1/4 inch diameter. I think the problem is that nozzle --what is that some sort of anti-splash rubber condom on it??

Yeah I have zero problems with filling mine also. But here in Florida I have never seen a gas pump like that before! That thing looks goofy.. It seems its not long enough to get down into the hole all the way. Ours have a much longer metal pipe that goes into the metal push door that's in the gas cap thing.

I'm in Cali and have similar rubber nozzle guards on pumps I go to. Sometimes I get problems, but I make sure I DEPRESS the nozzle ALL THE WAY into the car. It seems you press it in a little, then release and let it flop out.

I've also recently been experiencing issues where the pump stops me at half a tank as if the tank were full, not as bad as yours but I may need to figure something out if it persists.

This is a common issue for the W204. I talked with a service advisor and he gave me a report from MBUSA regarding the fuel pump nozzles.

SAY WHAT????

The gas companies provide you gas, not MB...DUH...MB only provided a container to carry it in and you bought the container first.

The problem is that type NOZZLE not MB. You need to complain to the gas companies.. and ultimately the State Government as I'm sure that's some sort of mandated device.. I travel KANSAS, MISSOURI and OKLAHOMA every week and never saw one here. So it's isn't FEDERAL. You Must be in a blue state---they are quite **** rententive. If it wasn't an iminagary problem, You'd think KS-OK-MO would have them to offset the cow farts, but...I've never heard my cattle fart or smell..all my girls are lady like...

Your barking up the wrong tree-- I bet they don't have that problem in Germany-

Put the blame where it belongs!!! At the pump...

To the OP....

Lock the nozzle ring against the filler pipe. You should not be able to pull the nozzle straight out if properly inserted. Pull the lever once the nozzle locked in place

Please read post #23 in the below link.

Hi, as the linked thread above shows this is definitely a known problem and you're not alone. It annoys the hell out of me. Only way I can get it to work is for me to pump the gas and have it inserted diagonally. Then it will pump fine. I've tried a hundred times to "insert firmly" blah blah blah...nothing works. It just shuts off automatically. Haven't had to take it in for service yet but when I do I'll mention it...although I doubt they will be able to do anything.

problem pumping gas

i have the exact same problem on my 2012 c250 coupe. it takes forever to pump gas and is becoming increasingly frustrating. It doesn't happen all of the time, but it happens way too much. I will start tracking this and will also take it to the dealer.

I'm finding the same condition with my 2013. I went to fill up last week and when it clicked off I thought to myself, "hmm that seems a bit short". Sure enough it was almost 1/4 light and had to make another stop to get it filled. It seems that the pumps at Costco are problematic. Hasn't done it elsewhere .....yet, although it is sometimes kind of balky getting started and you have to really jam it in there to get it going. I agree with AMFM, this is a liberal blue state environmentalist over regulation issue. Don't get me started on that.

I always use costco. It only shuts off when I don't insert it fully.

I hate this state.

I had this problem for as long as I can remember but not anymore.

I was indeed at Costco yesterday and coincidentally another MB on the adjacent pump was struggling to lock the gun. She caught the attention of the attendant who offered assistance but couldn't figure it out.

Next thing I knew, I was demonstrating to her how to properly insert the nozzle. She claimed her husband had just recently sent in the car to address the problem but was not told on how to lock the pump. She was very thankful and grateful. Well, glad I could help

For those of you who are having this issue at the pump, read this.
Insert the nozzle straight all the way in and push it down until the ring catch and locked into place against the filler pipe lip. Make sure the nozzle stays in place before squeezing the lever. It's not going to work if you can pull out the nozzle without having to lift it. Try again!

If the procedure failed then perhaps it's time for you to consult your SA.

Same problem in my 2013 c250. If the nozzle is insert at an angle, it generally stops filling after a few seconds. If it moves, it'll stop filling. Several times, I noticed I had to place my hand on top of the handle during the filling to keep downward pressure. This always does the trick, but annoying nevertheless. I thought I was the only one with the issue, but it didn't bother me enough to take it into MB for them to tinker with it.
