Custom rim weights versus factory stock rims
So I am currently shopping new custom rims and tires. I own a 09 C300 4Matic luxury. I have stock 17" 14 spoke rims. Long story short a local mechanic shop said if I change the weight of the tire/rim combo that it will throw off the transmission and break the drive shaft.
He went into more detail saying the custom rims were much lighter and always spun and it threw off the electronics in the transmission causing the drive shafts to break. Honestly IDK what to think.
Anybody heard of a rim weight issue or breaking a transmission?
The new 18"rims I'm buying weigh 29lbs. without tire (which will be 245/35R18).
I still haven't found anyone who can supply weight of factory 17" rim.......

Yeah I get that, I could care less about the rim size I'm talking about weight differential. A set of 16" could weigh the same as a set of 19"s depending on the makeup of the rim and tire configuration.
All configurations aside, will a weight difference screw up my transmission?
