W204 C220 CDI 2008 - Oil consumption @ 5K Miles

Hi Guys,

I noticed some oil drop (photo attached) after 5100 miles (8200 KM). Can this be classed as normal i.e. drop to this level and if so how much oil will be required for top up. Does OM646 engine burn oil during service intervals ?

The arrow on Max mark is where the oil was originally at service from Mercedes dealer. lower mark is where it stands right now.

car is a OM646.811 engine with 5 speed Auto.

Thanks in Advance. AA

Half a quart is definitely acceptable for 5000 miles. But do you know if it was to the full line when the last change was done. Did you check it when you got home or are you assuming? Max is max not where it has to be. Between the dots is safe. ALot of technicians won't fill to max but right below it.

Then your fine. That is acceptable consumption. In a 10000 mile oil change you'll loose a quart. That's not bad. Most manufacturers say 1 quart every 1000 miles is max but acceptable so be lucky your not in that boat. I think 1 every 1000 miles is ridiculous specially when a car holds 4.5 quarts and 5000 miles on oil changes like toyota..

Thank you so much @FknBoss that is indeed a consolation . Also, all of my driving is motorway driving. Constant 70mph. I do not use this car in the city at all. Its wife's Prius

I have seen blogs where few people have commented that they do not loose anything at all(oil) on their mercs. So I believe some oil consumed is a normal behaviour and if you do not loose any oil is a bonus. Also my c220 is getting old having done 100k plus miles; so aging factor as well since components wear out.
