Question regarding brakes

Today I was showing a car to a potential seller and when I got to his place I noticed something unusual. As I was parking the car, I couldn't step on the brake all the way. As soon as I stopped on it, it gave me a feeling that the pedal was "locked." The car wasn't moving so it wasn't big of a problem, but still it never happened before. After letting the pedal and pressing it again, I could step on it normally, but then after I let it go and stepped again it seemed locked again. The parking was outside parking and it was an uneven or maybe slightly uphilled surface.

Has this happened to anyone before? Is this a big issue, never had a problem when I was driving.

You might be activating the brake hold feature.

The HOLD function is activated when the driver steps briefly on the brake again while the vehicle is stationary. The vehicle is then held at a standstill – preventing it from rolling unintentionally forward or backward – without the driver having to keep his foot on the brake pedal.

Thats brake assist kicking in to help you from rolling when you take your foot off the brake before giving gas. Not sure if you have a malfunction but I notice it when I am on a hill at a red light. When I let go of the brake for a second hill assist kicks in and holds the brakes for you so you dont roll. It only does that for a few seconds and then lets go from what I understand.

So if you were to let the brakes go and then stomp of them again you might feel the brakes being engaged.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks!

That must be it. Thanks for the response! I didn't press brake all the way to teigger hold but the car was in a stationary position.I guess hold would trigger then too.

Brake assist that helps with going uphill is a different feature than brake hold.

The hold helps you at long stop lights etc. Don't have to keep your foot on the brakes while waiting at a light. When stopped press your brake pedal with more pressure and feature should engage. When you want to move just press on your gas.

Interesting I didn't know there was a separate feature for brake HOLD. I will have to try it!
