2010 w204 Central Gateway failure

so, my car would not start this morning. Tried jump starting, used both the keys to start - no luck. Towed it to the dealer. They are saying that the central gateway needs replacement as it is not working.

They are charging $1100. They also said that they are not sure if it will fix the problem. They have to put that in and then check

I am sure I am getting ripped off.

Anyone knows the cost of a such a repair?

That's the first time I have heard of a problem with these.
Seems like they should be pretty much bullet proof as they are just a switching hub with solid state components...anyone else know what may be a weak spot in them?
Pricing doesn't seem terrible but I'm not sure how involved it is to get to it and pop the new one out and the old one in.

First i heard of CGW random fail. when you say it didn't start, do you get the starter engaged and no start or no power at all?

2002 CL500 to CL55 conversion
Came across this thread while trying to diagnose a bad central gateway in a w211 I just bought

airmatic wouldn’t work, had a few display malfunctions on the dash, including SRS, and occasionally the car did not want to start. One key symptom is I’m not able to communicate with many modules during a diagnosis scan

looking at the wiring/function diagrams, the gateway is the common link between all of these modules

they go bad a lot apparently in w211, I took the gateway out and found corrosion on the circuit board. Cleaned the corrosion but still having issues so it looks like another Cgw is needed. Hope this helps someone
