Name this part ...

I was cleaning my car and bumped or rubbed against something and this part fell from?? It came from the driver's door side area. Door? Window? Seat? Instrument cluster?

Thanks for the help!

Looks like the seat adjuster switch. Is yours on the sear or by the door handle?

It is the seat adjuster switch. The poster said it happened on the driver's side so am guessing the car must be right hand drive. Look in your upper door area in the cluster where you adjust teh seat and I will bet you have an empty spot.

The one on mine looks different. But it's hard to tell between package levels and years. Some are on the seat and ones with memory functions are on the door.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. My seat adjuster is on the driver's door with memory function. It is not missing.

I will find where the piece came from tomorrow as it is really bugging me. The chamois or my shirt grabbed something and I noticed it on the driveway when I sat down in the car.

Check the passenger seat automatic adjustment knob, which is usually not located on the door. That honestly looks like the adjustment knob for the seat.

Still a mystery ...

Hi,

Not passenger seat control.

The part is smooth and hard plastic. Not textured. I checked the back of the part. It has "VL" and the other code is small and difficult to read b/c of the "prongs", so this is my best guess, either "A3A" or "A5A" or "A8A".

See pic:

Not sure where it came from but it did have some heavy dust / dirt, so an area that is easily cleaned or perhaps located on the exterior of the car?

I'm scheduling a B service later this week, I will ask / show the service tech at that time.

Thanks!

I took my car in for service today and mentioned the part to a Service Advisor. I left with a 2015 C300 Sport.

Initially, I totally forgot about the part! I was busy most of the day and it was not until I was reading the work order I saw a reference to the part.

I tracked down the Service Advisor b/c there was an issue with my car after service..

Well, they could not identify the part! He said Mercedes parts have a "Star" on the back. They looked for the part number on the back and could not locate a Mercedes part number that matched!

He gave it back to me.

So, maybe it came off one of my other 3 cars?!

Did the Service Advisor give me a BS explanation or tell the truth? Did the Service Advisor / technician research the part?

I don't know but I'm searching my other cars tomorrow. Geez!!

I looked all over my car and couldn't find any part that resembles that part lol

When you said you were cleaning, what were you doing? Vacuuming? Using vacuuming tools, etc? Maybe it's a part not even from the car, but from your vacuum? lol

You and me both! Lol

Washed and dried car. I was wiping down the door jams, truck, hood, etc with a damp microfiber cloth. I reached in the car to release the hood latch and saw the part on the driveway.

I]ll check my other car tomorrow. It came from somewhere! Thanks!

It looks like the end cap piece for the chrome trim that sits at the top of your door where the window meets the door. It is used to hold the trim piece tight in place.

Ref the pic below, circled in yellow are where these can be found...it's ether the rear cap of the front door trim, the front cap of the rear door trim OR rear cap of the rear door trim.

Close!! But that was not the location. I already checked those pieces / location.

The location of the missing piece is in red:

I checked again b/c it was still nagging me. And I found the location!

Mystery solved!!

I checked again b/c it was still nagging me and it was a nice day.

I had previously checked the locations mentioned by @derekfaze but I kept looking. I had the all the doors, trunk, and hood open while snapping pics. neighbors probably thought "He is crazy!" Lol

Anyway, I looked and the driver and passenger side for comparison but it's not really noticeable, at least for me, until I rubbed a finger under the metal trim. BINGO!

Missing piece - Not installed:

It came out once, so I gave it a small drop of super glue

Thanks to everyone that offered help!
