LOUD, 'SCRATCHY' IDLE

I have a 2010 C300 with the stock M272 E30 engine, automatic transmission, that has 57,000 miles. The vehicle has a very loud 'scratchy' idle. However, it does not knock or shake. It continues to idle like this even after I've driven for a bit. Other than this, it runs fine.

I've read a few blogs about cam shaft bearings, but unsure if this is the problem. I'd welcome any feedback on this.

Thanks!

UPDATE: I took my vehicle into the dealership. It was agreed that the idle is entirely too loud. The maint. advisor thinks the prob. might be with the idler pulleys. I asked if the alternator might be going bad. He said probably not but there's no real way of knowing until they look at it more closely. That'll be done when I take it in for the 60k maint.

Will keep this thread updated. I welcome your feedback on this.

I had the same issue. Honestly just put in a new serpentine belt and upper idler pulley. Parts costed me $60 bucks and took like half an hour to install.
