Formatting SD card necessary?
Hi all, just picked up a minty 2011 C350. Bought a PCMIA adapter to read SD cards. Originally loaded the card with a couple folders with songs in M4a (Apple) format. Realized that these aren't recognized, so went back and converted them all to MP3 in iTunes, then reloaded them on card. Erased the older files.
When card is loaded, the unit still seems to see the older incorrect files as well as the new ones. It plays the MP3s fine, but instead of the 24 correct songs, it's showing all the previous, too. When card is removed, there is nothing saved to the unit. Is this the device saving filenames for when the card is inserted again, or a weird issue with how the card is formatted? Do I need to purge the COMAND memory to fix this. Previously had the card in a Nikon camera.
I must say, there is quite a learning curve to this thing, but given that it's easily mid-2000's technology (no touch screen), I can't complain.

In general you don't have to format a new SD card before use.
However, since this card was used in a different device, I would format it before using it in your C350.

In general, it's best to format the SD card in the device that will use it, but I don't recall if there's a "format" command in COMAND somewhere or not. Otherwise, format the card in the device you will use to transfer the music (e.g., format in Windows if using a Windows PC).
Try it out and let us know
